Well, here's a couple of pictures of an oak-cabinetted ;-) kitchen with cream walls and then BM Monroe Bisque (much less yellow than SW Blonde). Please pardon the mess in the first one, it was taken shortly after we moved in. ;-) I thought the light cream color was kind of blah and tended to get very drab with shadows since there was so little natural light - kitchen was north facing and blocked by trees most of the year - but the Monroe Bisque was still light enough while having a little more "oomph". The kitchen is un-accessorized in the "after" pictures because the house was up for sale, but I staged it with some plum and sage green items like dishtowels and inexpensive plates on the breakfast bar when we moved out, to go with the BM Wet Concrete (grayed lavender) living room next to it. Hope this helps.

These plants love moisture, but their roots also need to breathe. Mine's potted up in a self-watering pot with a soil that drains very good and doesn't hold on to too much moisture, no matter how much it gets watered. I never let the soil dry out, yet it never stays soggy either. Every now and then, I put the pot in a small bucket and fill it up with water to the soil line and let it soak for roughly an hour or so. This gives any accumulated fertilizer salts time to dissolve in the water. Then I let it drain away and flush the soil with plenty of fresh water to rinse out the soil until the excess water starts to run clear. I also don't use tap water, but rather rainwater or the water from my dehumidifier. In fact, I do this with most of my plants.

I'm late getting back to this thread, but, Nik, I'm sorry for your heat wave, and hope it has passed! No one should have to deal with temperatures in the nineties this time of year. The weather here has finally turned kind in September. Rain, clouds and sun in decent proportions, liveable temperatures. I'm gardening!! Planning on transplanting peonies today (and having a look at the long-neglected big garden). I've been working on a series of holes that, once the rocks and clay that got dug out of them have been amended with organic matter, will get planted with trees of various sorts. Associated with this project is brush clearing and further soil improvement and, one hopes, an improved tiny patch of Planet Earth. On the other hand we're going to be putting about thirty-five miles on our gas-fueled auto today, having unavoidable running around to do, and so will be dumping more carbon dioxide in the air. My family is part of the problem. We need solutions on the national level, and I'm glad some governments realize that.
