Just getting started with some of our new roses planted July 2008 - this is their second summer,

Crown Princess Margareta - D.A. supposed to be bush but is more of a pillar

Dolly Parton. I love this rose, just like her namesake - a big, blousy, beautiful rose with a fabulous perfume.

All very pretty Tricia and I love them all I have a fondness for the DA's even though I only have four in the garden.

Yours are so healthy looking Tricia I lost more of mine this past Summer due to flooding on the block.
I have just come in from watering and notice more have got scale on them.
So I have decided to let them go as they are not suited to this climate at all.
Early Spring is the only time they bloom and are not full of diseases or insects
And for the other ten months of the years they are a sad insects eaten mess..

Yes they are very lovely Tricia. Like MM I gave up, but then I was never trying much other than a few climbers or patio varieties.
Misty I discovered a beautiful rose garden in the Gold coast Hinterland, well west of Nerang not very high up, it's never open to the public but there's quite a nice view from the street. I don;t know what their secret is other than LOTS of mulch, raised beds (on a sloping site) and probably plenty of manure - it's a picture though.

I don't know Leasa, as pictures can be deceiving when you can't take in the full view. But after seeing the pictures taken from the upstairs window I really think this garden had a plan to it originally. The cedars are well placed and form a semi circle from what I can tell with the circle garden being the focal point. It almost looks like the trees were intended to form garden "Rooms". Have you spoken with the garden club/society in your area to see if the former owner was a member? There is a chance that if you start asking around there may be some people who knew the owner and they may have info or pictures of what the grounds used to look like. Also, maybe long time neighbors could help you to sort it out. Of course you may just want to tear into it and make it all your own. Just thought I'd share what I saw in the pictures. MeMo

Jean, I lost my original PERFECT MOMENT a couple of yrs ago to crown gall, and was afraid I wouldn't find it again. But luckily it's still not too hard to find. Too bad yours didn't make it. Les, GRANDE AMORE is new for me, and I'm not a red rose lover, but I think this one is going to be a really good one! Bustopher, I didn't know SOLITAIRE was available at Heirloom. When did they start carrying it? It's been really hard to find for many yrs. Hope yours makes it! Liane, I'm glad to hear you're going to be getting blooms soon. 'Bout time!! Harry, according to HMF I'm well over 1500 at this point! I am running out of room, so I won't be adding many next season.... (Yeah right, I said that last yr!) LOL Angela, I gave away two other FLAMING PEACE roses before I ended up keeping this one. The dang things bloomed like PEACE the first couple of flushes, so I thought they were mis-marked. I guess it does that before it gets established, because this one did the same thing, and I just let it go for a yr, and then it bloomed like this from then on. Weird...

Thank you, Christina. Frankly, combining red and pink doesn't usually occur to me either:-), I forgot to say that these are the roses I had to cut down after a storm (apples too). The roses are Trumpeter, Heritage and Yves Piaget. Krista, thank you. I love Regensberg for its cheerfulness and unfussiness. It is perfectly clean and blooms all the time. Juliet, pourquoi parlez-vous toujours francais?, L'anglais, n'est-il pas assez romantique? :-) As far as rose food is concerned, I use lots of things without any particular method or system. I use alfalfa, cottonseed meal, bone meal, and occasional Dr. Earth rose food (expensive in quantity for me), and also occasionally granular synthetic acidifying nitrogen. Also, coffee grounds, grass clippings and redwood compost. Anything to make the soil a little more acidic. Masha

Tammy has a white poodle. 5. Lala in Idaho has “Lala,“ White poodle.. 6. Jasmine has a white Perinese & goats. ( Goats almost qualify as a dogLol!!) 7. I am so excited to see them grow roses this spring. My daughter’s, Elizabeth‘s, pooch, Border Collie, Elix, & my Anastasia poodle spent a play date together today... walk at the Lake park. Her dog is sooooo smart. He does lots tricks and totally out ran my Anastasia which surprised me. I thought my poodle was the most energetic dog on this earth, but , NO, it’s her fast border collie! Thank you for your nice comments girls. You have no idea how we envy you being able to grow all those other lovely things like frangipani, the boggies, and the huge variety of hibiscus and other tropicals. Thank God, Victoria at least can grow roses. We have been on Stage 4 watering for years and just now gone to stage 3, ie watering for two hours with one hose twice a week, but is enogh to keep them going.

Just realised I have called the first rose on this set "Claire" but it is actually a D.A. "Grace". Claire is a bigger rose, Grace is a lovely compact apricot colour.
