Orchid I rescued from certain death

Female I know lost interest in her orchids, dumped the lot in a corner and left them to the survival of the fitess (that word looks wrong but I don't know where??)

I took bits off all of them. They all grew for me and this is the first one that has flowered.

Isn't it pretty? quite small, only about 2 1/2 inches across.

Yes, if you find yourself not having enough withheld, then the payroll department of your employer does not have sufficient information to process their withholding accurately. When you hire on, you fill out a form for tax purposes. You are the one responsible to let them know how much they need to hold out. It can be affected by changes in your spouse's employment, changes in family size, second or third jobs you take on after hiring in. If you are getting divorced or married, you should check their information to see that they are correct. IOW there is a difference from how much they withold for single filing individually or jointly. As for the Uncle using your money and not paying you interest, lol, believe it or not, they prefer you NOT overpay. There are even penalties for people who use their witholding as a Christmas club account.

It sounds like you have a tender heart for living things. You should not feel guilty for kidnapping the plant, because you did not kidnap it, you rescued it from certain death. Now you want to sentence it to death again. That would make you feel even more guilty. Can you live with that? But if as suggested above you make an attempt to find the owners and explain to them that you saw the plant and knew the weather was taking a turn for the worst and brought it in to keep it warm, and the owners reply, then you'll feel better. If they don't reply, then you'll feel even more better, because you can care for the plant with a clear conscience. And just think, if it survives for you all winter, you can put it back outside in the same place next summer and see what happens.

As Richard said, new leaves will come from the center of the plant. One day a tiny speck will appear there and start growing. Phals put out maybe three leaves a year, with good light and good care, a new leaf might appear in a couple of months. Growth is much faster in spring-summer than in winter. When you water, make sure the center (called the crown) stays dry If water gets into the crown, roll up the corner of a paper napkin and wick the water out. I agree with the others that reading up on phal care is a good idea. For free tip sheets on care for phals, check out the Canadian Orchid Congress and the American Orchid Society websites. Hey Karyn, I have one of these, I think they are awesome looking! Nice of you to rescue it! I think the brown spots are just where some of it's little thorns were broken off and it healed and calloused over. Watch them and if they turn soft or spread you may have reason for concern, but I don't think it will be a big deal. Euphorbias seem to over-react a little and form big callouses for little wounds, mine do at least... Good luck with it and enjoy!

Lovely flower and good on you for trying, and being successful.

I have inherited a lot of Epiphyllums, not so hard to bring back as orchids

I have to tell you all........I think the orchid is hexed.
I brought it inside to appreciate it, you know.
I was carrying it over to show my daughter and her boyfriend who were sitting on the couch and just as I started to lean down to show it to them, a tiny little lizard (and I mean TINY..think about 2.5cms long) crawled out and ran across my thumb.
Now, I can assure you I am not so whimpy as to be afraid of a 2.5cm lizard but it startled me.
So you can guess what happened, can't you?
I gave a bit of a yelp and dropped the pot.
It must have looked funny. I dropped the pot onto the lounge and jumped back.
My D's DB who is 6'3" and about 100kg....well, I've never seen him move so fast (not even for dinner!) he got up and jumped over the footstool all in one move. My daughter yelled in sympathy and also jumped up.
and the poor orchid parted company with the pot and all the bark.
G*d knows where the lizard went to....probably stilling hiding somewhere having a nervous breakdown.
I console myself with the thought it could have been a lot worse...it could have been dirt in that pot or it might have been a 2.5cm red-back!!
