Kevarose don't get too excited, we have the winter to get through yet. Daffodils always start to emerge at this time of year here, even in the coolest parts of Vic. I have had jonquils bloom as early as the first of May in North Central Vic, but heard frequent reports of much earlier blooms. I am quite convinced that this is normal.
Mum has anemones blooming in her garden, but only the odd one. We live in a mild climate, and sometimes the plants do confuse a good sunny autumn with Spring, but it is not really very unusual for Australia.
Daffodils planted late will still have thier biological clocks set. I planted autumn crocus last year, with no leaf showing, only to have them bloom 5 days later.
In much colder climates, where the soil is frozen for much of the winter, all these bulbs are traditionally Spring bulbs, and some do not thrive at all.

seriously thought - 22 degrees in May here is simply not funny.
What I would give to see some good rain.
the six inches in one day in February and hardly a drop since.. such a worry, farmer friends are just sitting waiting to sow, there's no point in putting the seed in for the cockies to eat.
Yes, we might as well have this beautiful weather if it's not going to rain, but a few prayers to make it come would be welcome....

Fran I will do my equivalent of praying. It has been 28 degrees here. And I have no grass for my 3 ponies (I bought another) so am hand feeding and I do feel for the farmers who are doing this to a much larger band of hungry animals. The hottest April on record is the news. Hopefully it will herald a wet winter.

I only wish I could package up our long grass and send it to you for your ponies. We have had moderate rains, but the soil is heavy clay loam, and our very flat yard retains moisture very well. Much of the soil moisture comes from our septic drainage underneath. I will be very unhappy if we are ever forced to have sewerage connected, as I see this ground water as a great resource in my garden. (despite the extra mowing it causes :-)

We have now had 2 good frosts & the dahlias, 4o'clocks & impatience are gone we have jonquils in flower very little colour on our deciduos trees & the leaves are all falling the farmers are sellin goff a lot of stock as the paddocks are turning to dust, they call it drought what a terrible mess we are all in I hope the drought breaks soon & Australia can get back to normal a friend has been to Tassie. & tells us they have very dry conditions there also.

Victoria not only had the hottest,dryest April ever but it was hotter than February for the first time ever.
I remember when we first moved into our place here and the upper back yard was constantly soggy and squishy(clay)but for the past 3 years or so it has been like concrete.
I really hope that our weather patterns revert to typical and
that this new pattern does not become permanent.
In the meantime-my daffs are also emerging,the spirea is in bloom(it's called May in the northern hemisphere because it blooms in May up there) and Veilchenblau has a scattering of blooms.

PHEW WELL I AM GLAD ITS JUST NOT MY GARDEN THATS GONE CRAZY AS I HAVE A WEEPING MULBERRY THAT IS GETTING READY TO SHED ITS LEAVES FOR AUTUMN BUT HAVE NOTICED IT ALSO HAS RED MULBERRIES ON IT NOW TOO, I HAD CHRYSANTHEMUMS IN FLOWER AT CHRISTMAS TIME AND FLOWERING AGAIN NOW AS WELL , AND HAVE AN ORANGE RHODY THAT JUST NEVER FLOWERS THIS TIME OF YEAR AND YEP SHE'S IN FLOWER ,I WONDER WHAT IS GONNA HAPPEN IN WINTER OH YES AND MY ROSES ARE HAVE ALL GOT NEW SHOOTS ON AS WELL
