I managed to find one more plant, I only need two more. Will it reseed? Can I have clarification about the sowing of fresh seed, lomatia? Do I wait for it to go to seed, save the seed (I'm not sure how to do this, do I dry it?), wait until three months before last frost date, put the seeds in a pot, seal and put in the freezer for 3 months, then take it out, and keep at room temperature for it to germinate, then take it ouside (sheltered) to harden, then plant? Sorry for the run-on sentence! I'm new at propogating, and I really have no experience at harvesting my own seeds. Lots of experience with plants that seed themselves, though. Usually where you don't want them to!

Mmm, a dry unseasonally hot UK summer has given my aconitums a torrid year - Spark's variety certainly crisped to a frazzle while the statuesque carmichaelii arendsii is also looking a bit...thin. Not such a bulletproof choice in a dry woodland, it seems, unless a few bucketfuls of water are thrown in their direction. The earlier spring varieties do well for me...but it is that autumn blue I crave (asters, lovely though they are, are just not hitting the right shade of inky blue). I sowed my last few Ivorine (septentrionale) seeds this week, but am considering doing another seed order (I want more of the early cammarum Stainless Steel and a white cammarum from Plantworld).

Not to discourage the trade, but are you aware that quite a few standard landscape plants (like azaleas and rhododendrons) are quite toxic. Just because it's there, doesn't mean things will eat it.

"I have given up on delphiniums totally. They might as well be an annual for me, and at the time they bloom, there are plenty of other choices I can make." Yeah back in the early 1990s, there was an article in Southern Living about how one of the big public gardens in the south, maybe "Magnolia Gardens" would order a bunch of huge, well grown Delphs from a northern wholesaler. Probably in gallon containers or even bigger. They would plant them in a display bed in late winter, let them bloom much earlier than they would in the north, and discard them. Kind of similar to how Longwood Gardens gets their magnificent display of blue poppies in late winter. They are grown to blooming size by an Alaska wholesaler. Shipped to PA in the fall ,at no small expense to be sure. Then using day length manipulation and controlled lighting to trick them into having a shorter winter, making them go into summer bloom in March.
