It's been a mixed year for me. I lost an early Spark's variety completely during our unusually hot, dry summer and a whole bunch of late summer ones simply collapsed flat on the ground. looking an unsightly mess. A wayward drive-on managed to mangle my small seedling ivorine (I have faith for next year).The ones in my nascent woodland garden, supported within the stems of a viburnum, are flowering...although the japanese anemones, as of 2 weeks ago, were still struggling. Not too worried as it has taken me upwards of 3 years to fully establish JAs. Finally got around to ordering seeds of the twining hemsleyanum 'Red Wine' ...and have a fancy to also order another twiner, the navy blue a.volubile.

Monkshood really only likes to be divided in very early spring when just a tiny bit of foliage is showing. But it actually benefits from being divided about every five years or so or it develops the circle with a dead zone in the middle shape. To divide, wait until there is just enough foliage showing to be sure where the clump is (like one leaf showing) and slip a shovel under to pry up the whole clump. Then just pull the clump apart into pieces as small as one cone with a leaf and a root. Or just break in half or quarters. Pot or replant. Even the one leaf cones reach blooming size to 2-3 years. I have enough clumps that I break one up every year to have some to swap. Once the monkshood stems begin to enlongate, it isn't crazy about being moved. I finally got germination of one each of aconitum yezoense and aconitum napiforme (out of about 10 seeds per pack). But that's better than I've done before in three years of trying.

Maybe the victims got far enough away before they died. Monkshood is a legendary poison. I doubt your monkshood will get eaten again.

BEV:I have Blue Monkshood and would be interested in a trade for some of your "Ivory" seed but my Monkshood hasn't even begun flowering as of yet. Are you only wanting seeds or I could pull up a couple of roots and send them along if you are interested. Let me know. Ross.
