I planted roses for the first time last year and I am hooked. When members refere to DA's,do they mean David Austin roses. Could someone recommend their favourite, as I would like to grow one.

There are so many out there I only have the one *Mary Rose*

That white you see on the leaves is diluted milk helps to keep Black Spot away as Brisbane is the BS Capital of OZ.

I would love to grow Jude the Obscure a beige buff kind of colour and Pat Austin which is orange.. I would love to see the two new ones for 2007 Summer song and Windermere its so hard to make up your mind with so many to choose from do have a look at the link below..MM

The only thing I don't like so much about Hortico is that they ship very late for my area. I received my plants in early April and we have had a few days almost 90. Late Feb. or early March is a better time here. But I have kept them moist and they are all doing ok so far. A few years ago I bought St. Ethelburga, Chandos Beauty, Imperatrice Farrah and Jessica from Hortico. All of those did very well except Jessica. I think they like Amanda Beales roses and so do I. I looked her up the other day and was surprised that she died at a young age. She was in her 40's. She bred Flamenco Rosita, St. Ethelburga, Clarence House, and Horatio Nelson. Flamenco Rosita doesn't need any strong rootstock. The Hortico website can be a little confusing. It sounds like they're mainly wholesale but they do sell retail. Shipping 11 roses to NC was $59. Two of the plants were for my nearby friend. I like K&M also but Fortuniana is not for everyone and some of the old Austins just lack vigor own root. Some of those weaker growers can still make a fine plant and are beautiful but they're just going to be small and take their time.

Thanks for all the garden love here. Also the photography compliments. It’s just my iPhone and many I took stepping outside for a few minutes to get away from my now at home stressful job. Despite my 15 yr loyalty to Heritage I would say Boscobel is the best of all here. Really my most generous DA bloomer. Graham Thomas is pretty good too. Lady Edna Hamilton is the most beautiful I think but not so generous. A sharp eye would have noticed the Dr. Huey blooming below. I had two plants and one was damaged by a mountain of snow so now the rootstock is blooming. They actually compliment each other. Open to hearing why I should take out the Dr. I get some BS on my Austin’s later in the summer. Last year the Boscobels were almost completely defoliated but here they are. I almost never spray with fungicid. I am militant about spraying the aphids in spring though. I will not let them rob me of the big early June bloom.

I do not grow Fair Bianca and I hope someone who does comments here soon. I do however grow a good variety of David Austin roses and very very few are blackspot resistant enough in the south to be grown no spray. I specially love white roses and I am always looking for healthy ones. I am pretty certain I do not have her because the reviews have not been stellar. The best “near whites” Austins I grow no spray are Desdemona and Lichfield Angel and Claire Austin. I also grow tranquility which gets more blackspot that the other two but it is very vigorous and makes good blooms for cutting. I do not have a good picture of Claire because it was new this year, but it stayed very very clean. Desdemona Tranquility Lichfield Angel is excellent Fair Bianca does look gorgeous and I hope someone else can give you some good news. If you end up trying it please let me know how she does for you.

Currently I only have DA's "Heritage". She's a beauty. I got her this year in Jan - and she's still flowering - it's Autumn - no sign of pests or diseases.

I would recommend her as a beginner's rose. In the past, I had Grahma Thomas and Teasing Georgia - but I had trouble growing them.

Heritage loves seasoil - mix it with water, and the result is outstanding!

Some of us use DA as shorthand to avoid calling them English roses. DA is not the only Englishman to breed lovely roses.
My favourite is Winchester Cathedral, a tireless bloomer. Golden Celebration is another hard working rose, repeats beautiful blooms with astonishing speed. Gertrude Jekyll is wonderful, Prospero flowers almost continually, as do Sophy's Rose and Lillian Austin.
I find the "old" DAs more satisfactory than the new.

hi i'm a new member and a david austin roses fan.
can you guys share your own experiences growing these rose mentioned below, because i just went and bought them. maybe send some photos of your rose bushes.

I don't know if you are interested however Bunnings at Staford have both Jude the Obscure Pat Austin plus many many more DA at $6.98 each. Tacca

I bought the JTO, Pat Austin and Graham Thomas your price is wrong though the DA were $12.95 each at the Springwood store.
