David Austin claims that Olivia Rose Austin (pictured here) is his best rose to date. Although I have other DA roses that rival Olivia in my opinion, I can't argue with this assessment. The flowers are very delicate and old-fashioned, the foliage is immaculately healthy, the repeat bloom is good, and it has a nice scent. I think of Olivia as a rose that combines the best qualities of an OGR like Souvenir de la Malmaison with an easy-care landscape rose like Bonica. My Olivia has not been in my garden for long, so I am expecting it to get better each year. At the present time it is loaded with buds. I have other favorite DA roses: Heritage, Abraham Darby, Tamora, Young Lycidas and Boscobel. I have grown Tamora in 2 different gardens because of the excellent repeat bloom and intense myrrh fragrance. It has been interesting to me that Tamora has grown a foot or more taller, and has flowers that are more globular, on the Southern California coast than in an inland valley. I don't think you can go wrong with any of these roses.
