Help naming this fruit

Can anyone help me naming this fruit? I thought it was a black sapote. However, that is the chocolate pudding fruit, isn't it? ... & this one de3finitely os not that - have a look at the poic on this link.

It looks like a soursop - Annona muricata - related to custard apples

Yes I think tonyfromoz is right. Does the flesh look abit like the custard apple with a stringy texture to it?

Regarding the pictures. Obviously it's easiest if the pictures are directly in the post but the OP's initial clickable link opened up an album. If you then clicked on the pictures you got large versions. I could see them fine.

The peach and the damson should be self-fruitful, so no need to worry about them in terms of pollination. I looked around for information regarding the Yates apple and only found the statement that this variety makes a good pollinator for other apples. So to my thinking, other apples would pollinate IT! Right? I would at least look for other late maturing apples. Winesaps come to mind, but there are plenty of others. Your local extension office might be a good place to go for information pertinent to your location. I took a couple of pome fruit courses in college but that was waaay to long ago for me to remember the ins and outs of apple pollination, lol. By the way, tree fruit varieties as old as these will no longer be patented.

Doesn't look spiny enough to be a muricata. Looks more like A. montana, the mountain soursop.

Or it may even be the dreaded A.glabra or Pond Apple , it is spreading all over the wet tropics up here , and I did buy one many years ago from a market down near Brisbane .

Sure looks like our Pond Apple. A major player in the Florida Everglades.

Years ago, just at the north landing of the Daintree River Ferry, there were some of these black sheep of the Anonna family growing. A large sign with dire warnings about the plant was posted there. The trees and the sign are long gone but the Pond Apple lives on in FNQ.

This one can live with its roots and trunk under water for extended periods...spreads quickly and will take over any wet areas. The fruit does not taste good enough (insipid) for commercial use.
