Brugs - a first flower for this one

I bought a cutting some months ago, potted and surprised to find it flowering. Was supposed to be yellow but I don;t mine, its a lovely BIG flower and the perfume is wonderful.

Now where to find it a home in the garden.

I think Tuppitoo's idea of multiple postings is grand and drives all the cr**p spammers off the page. Let's try anyway,. the moderators are doing nothing.

Lovely flower on a small plant.
My sister kept hers in her apartment, for years and it was full of blooms, but gave it away when it became too large. Still loaded with blooms

I too have sent in 5 different complaints about

SPAMMERS,

but no results.

Hi Inga, how did your sister find the fragrance inside the house? This one is very perfumed, I would find it hard to deal indoors.

Hello Ruth Ann, The flowers stay white for almost 24 hours, then the peach colour appears in patches. After a couple of days, they look more orange than peach to my eye. And the perfume is only intense the first couple of nights. There, I've said it all. I had to take off many leaves because of the darned white flies, but it shows off the flowers, so it's almost a good thing...

LOL Ocd! Congrats and welcome to brugs Pk93. Lots of plants are wonderful - but there's just something magical to me about brugs. It's a tree (or bush depending on which ones) - that grows like gangbusters - and they're forgiving if you make a goof with ferts and stuff. They react quickly and reward you immensely. JMHO - but very few plants give me such satisfaction. I think that's why they become so addictive to me.

If it's from a cutting, it could definitely be a flower bud. I've noticed that cuttings I do from the part above the "Y" tend to want to go ahead and set buds early - sometimes way too early. I should probably introduce myself. My name on GardenWeb is herbalmama because I used to do a lot of herbs, however, am doing brugmansias currently (for about 3 years now). I live on the Kitsap Peninsula, near Seattle, in WA. I am completely plant-a-holic and deal with my addiction by working in a nursery. I've been lurking on this forum for a bit now, but thought I'd jump in and help. To answer the question as to whether or not you should remove the bud, I think you should (I would). If your sun is enough and it's warm enough, it will probably set some more right away, which I, personally would keep removing until it's much larger. Good luck with your brugmansia rearing! Once they are tall enough I would mulch them in the ground if its really hot. It helps conserve moisture but the snails like mulch so keep it away from the trunk to help keep them from snacking on the leaves. I have one plant trying to emerge that they eat every leaf as it pops out. Gonna have to stand out there with a flashlight and end his fun I guess. Underplanting will work too as long its not something that will take all the water and fertilizer from the brug. Most have a good smell but a few can have a bug spray scent or very faint smell and some are overpowering. Just depends on the plant.

hello, Alison, been quite a while since I've been on Forums. How have you been?
I got some Brug cuttings from an elderly Italian garden near my sister and 2 of them flowered for me. I was surprised 'cos I only planted them last year. Must have done something right.. :):)
I've forgotten how all this works but hopefully I've put in the link for my brugs...hopefully.

What a beauty Ally, so nice when cuttings flower. It is so good to see Annie here again too, We all feel the same about this site such a shame it has gone to the dogs.

Alison, that's such a big flower on a little plant! Looks rather like Old Apricot at first glance ... I would have thought you already had that one though.

Let's see if I can post a photo ... No, I can't see how. Damn! I'll have to do some fiddling ...
