confused about sweet peas: to water or not to water

Hi All

Have a question regarding the watering of sweet peas when planting. I bought four packets of seed (different varieties). Two of them say plant in damp soil with no further watering until seedlings emerge. The other two say to keep the soil moist but avoid over-wetting. So I'm a little confused.

My worry is that as I'm living in Queensland (still dry and warm although it's meant to be almost winter) the ones I don't water will dry out well before the seedlings emerge and that this will be a bad thing. So I am tempted to water them all. However I do remember when my grannie grew them she always waited until after the "april rains" before planting so they didn't get waterlogged. Seems like a rather delicate balance!
