That "ginger" is one of my favourites. I found out from cutting some stems of the flowers once for the house, that cuttings will root very easily in water, a great way to multiply the plants quickly as its a stunning colour.

Wish I could get hold of a ginger like that, must try if the shop bought roots will take.

I know the organic ones sprout roots here, not sure about the shop bought ones where you are..
They wont here as I think they have been sprayed with something so they will keep longer.

I don't think it will work either, nice idea though..

MM if life ever went anything like "normal" I think I'd be buying a new camera and begging you for lessons.

I think the D. makes seeds though- berries perhaps?

Not sure about that one Alison I will keep a watch out on my big plant and let you know later.
Last year was the first time it flowered and it only had two flower stems.

The native bees are fascinating and I've only seen 3 in the past 5 years around here.I did get a photo about 3 years ago and keep looking. they are solitary animals and may be I havn't the right plants to attract them now.

Would you believe I have seen quite a few of the bees on my plants lately.
Mind you I am finding it so hard to get a pic of them they dont keep still long enough.
And I am getting slower..

Friday I got a couple of pics of our Leaf- Cutter bee, you would know which one I mean.
They cut those perfect circles out of the rose leaves I will put them on when I get time..

I love your photos too Mistymorn - I was just admiring these bees out the front of our yard today - couldn't believe the blue! they were buzzing on the exact plant that you have pictured, which I was also wondering what that was as we have several and they've grown by themselves. I think I'll take some cutting now as I love them

Yeah, great photos misty...., I've aimed my camera at them a couple of times but seems I just cant get the buggers to stay there a half-second longer so I can get the focus right and hit the clicker. They are lovely little critters, I get them visiting my cerastostigma willmottiana (can't find a common name for that), which has sky-blue flowers all summer. The bees buzz around and in and out the branches and rarely visit the same flower twice, and when they do they hesitate and you can tell they remember they've already been to that flower. And if I'm just sitting there, on my garden seat next to the bushes, they'll stop mid air about 6 inches from my leg (or arm) and just check me out before moving on. Programmed to fulfil a role in the nature of things, how wonderful and amazing a garden is.

That was certainly a great picture and from my posting I see it is 4 years since I,ve sen a native bee around here-although lots of honey bees even in the young Rosemary hedge. I,ll keep looking. chas
