I've got 4 or 5 of these ... think they are rather variable - even the leaves exhibit this whole range of intermediate characters - I've got a few with dark green leaves (the edges are crinkled) and a bright pink rim, and another with lots of spots on the stem and just dark green leaves with a smooth edge. Another friend has got specimens that are inbetween.. its a nightmare trying to ID these plants for sure ! LOL

I don't know where you can get a description for each species, but there's a couple of sites that have pictures of lots of them: IAS Genus Amorphophallus Alan Galloway's Amorphophallus page Galloway's page has pictures of lots of species, probably significantly more than the IAS site, but IAS has distribution info and a general care sheet which divides the genus into two basic geographic groups. Both are pretty helpful, and just kind of fun to look at if you're an Amorphophallus junkie.

Wow, a 20" diameter tuber must be quite impressive!!! The tropics would be an awesome place to be for these!! Klavier....glad to hear the plants are doing well in Binghamton.....you must be nearly ready to graduate?? I have been lucky to keep my titanum very small for 4 years now.....I keep them poorly watered and in small pots (12" diameter) and that way I can enjoy the plants rather than having to get rid of them......a 45 pound tuber would not be very practical in a home, but a nice 4 foot petiole can be enjoyed for many years without a lot of fuss!! Aroideana, my Dracontium prancei continues to do fantastically well and even though I also keep it underpotted for practical reasons it has a new 5 foot tall petiole that has just formed in the house to replace the old one (the old one has not gone down yet) so I am quite pleased with that. Nest spring I will move it from its 8" diameter (20cm) pot up to a nice big 12 inch (30 cm) pot to let it have some room to run!! Of course, the D. polyphyllum continue to grow well and 2 unknown sp. from Brasil are also doing well so some of the Dracontium have proven to be pretty reliable for me :o) Dan

I have some Sauromatum venosum offsets, but I assume you're not interested in those since they're fairly common? I will eventually have some non-spotted variants of A. bulbifer bulbils when my seelings get old enough to start producing them, but I don't have any to trade right now (I only have the two seedlings).
