WOW! i really like your portulucas..
i avoided buying these annuals because the seedlings they had at flower power were always drenched and seemed as if they were about to damp off.. and i know they like a rather dryer condition.

I should really try planting a mix next summer.

Beautiful flowers and they do give a good show.
At least you snail catcher has legs I think I could handle having it in the garden

Portulaccas are one of those plants that never seem to be in fashion but are tough as old boots and can handle the dry, and should be grown more. Love Bluey, haven't seen any around here, though we do have a few bearded dragons.

Love the way they spread all around and dont need much water to keep them alive.
What a pic of the B.T.Lizard its a beauty like GH we only get Bearded Dragons on our block.

The Portulacas are very pretty but I do so wish we had some of the blue tongues here, they are such good garden companions.

Thanks Ladies, it's good to have a little bit a spare time again.
I fear the bluey will be last we ever see of them around here, he seems to be the only one left, years ago we had quite a few of them and dozens of bearded dragons. Alas due to the profilferation of the dreaded scrub turkey in our area, all the undergrowth in the remnant bushlands here has been scratched up, leaving the lizards no coverage. The bearded dragons have totally disappeared.
As for the portulacas, well in these dry times they do make a nice display.

Lovely pics. of your Portulaca which I must try again, only thing I find a problem they are so snail attracting, but I guess your lizard makes short work of them.

hi barbara, love your pics and that lizard looks well fed, he must be doing a good job around the garden. can you plant out portulaca over winter or is it too wet for them? I like to get my plants in over the cool season because it gets so hot and dry very early here before the the official start of summer. what do you think? or is it better to hold off and plant them out in spring?

Thank you Trancegemini, I'm not sure but I shouldn't think it would hurt to plant them out a little earlier, To be honest I haven't planted any for years, mine just come up each year.

Trancegemini i would wait till spring. As these annual succulent like plants thrive in more warmth than cold. IF you do start them in just before spring im guessing you'll find they won't grow fast until the warmer sun hits them.

barbarah yours come back each year during the warmer season? or do they continuously come back regardless of season.. (do you see new ones germinate in winter?)

No, Tsunami, they just come back in the summer.
