What's wrong with this, pls?

Hi, everyone,

Can anyone help me with this? It belongs to my neighbour and, over the past couple of weeks, this has happened.

I have no idea as I don't know much about these things but I told her I'd ask here.

Can anyone help?

Hi Annie I though it may have been Mealy bug but the edges of the leaves put me off,
Maybe sunburn or a mineral deficiency do you know if Lime has been added lately.
Mineral Deficiencies
Have a read anyway you may find the answer if no one else knows....Cheers...MM.

Hi, MM, I meant to add that in the centre of the thing looks like sawdust?
We haven't had that much sun...not to cause that damage, anyway. I had thought of that but the leaves below the damage are fine.
Thanks for that site. I'll have a read thru it and see.
I might ask Alison or Ian Wintle to have a look at the photo...maybe they would have some ideas.

There are more resistant forms of Phlox paniculata, in particular a white flowered one called David if you want to replace this. If not powdery mildew has yet to kill any of my phlox, though it sure is ugly if the plant is very visible. You can reduce its likelihood next year with good culture, though not necessarily prevent it. This fall, remove all the stems and leaves after the first frost and throw it out - don't compost it. Put new mulch under the plant to prevent the spores from splashing onto new growth next spring. As it grows next year, cut out enough of the stems so that the foliage isn't crowded and gets good air flow. Water with soaker hoses if needed, don't wet the foliage. If you want to use a fungicide (I don't like to as they may cause problems for various critters or groundwater) you really need to use it before it gets this bad - using it now won't really help. Start using it at the very first sign of PM.

The "stuff" you are seeing is lichen. Lichen is harmless to the tree, but, at least in this case, is a sign of other problems. The tree in the picture looks like it's in extremely bad health (at least the part in the picture). There's really nothing to go on, in your post, to help determine what happened to the tree (it was NOT the lichen). Weeping willows and flowering peaches (especially flowering peaches) are not the most robust trees to start with. So, don't give up on trees in general, although you might want to remove these!

You need a better plumber. Or a better GC. Or both. He should have used the proper rigid chrome decorative supply lines as well as the decorative P. A MUCH better looking job can be done with someone allowed to open the wall and relocate the waste arm to work better with the sink you chose. Your GC should have given your plumber a copy of the specs so he could locate the waste and supply optimally.

A newly planted hydrangea with yellowing leaves with yellowing leaf veins suggests that it may not be used to getting this much sun since planted 2 weeks ago. The nursery probably had it in less sun or in bright full shade. A nutrient disease (nitrogen deficiency) is a low possibility as well fertilized plants from nurseries should not show this issue in just two weeks. Then again, watering daily may make it difficult to absorb oxygen and maybe other already present minerals. The browning on the leaves may be fungus from the plant nursery or due to high humidity (watering daily sounds too much) or sun. Water if a finger inserted to a depth of 4" into the soil feels dry or almost dry. Make sure you do not water the leaves. Only water the soil! A sudden turn to light green after 3 years might indicate that the soil is becoming neutral or alkaline.

Hi Annie, no expert on these. But unless your neighbour has particularly bad-draining soil and they have been deluged in the recent rain, I would suspect scale.
Please go have a look along the stems and fronds and particularly under. Green scale is barely detectable sometimes, run your fingernail along and see if you expose orange juice, that's them, live ones.
Then post back. I think I remember someone else in Bris mentioning this was a problem and will find links if you agree that's it.
