Hey Melody, I read on the net that these are hardy only for zones 9-12. Would I be able to grow it in a container and keep it pruned? I've never heard of these and when I saw the pics, I want one really badly. Thx for any advice. Joel.

Brandon, I think that the species is tabebuia chrysanthus (if that helps). Also known as handroanthus chrysanthus. Here's a picture of it. VERY beautiful tree. The genus tabebuia/handroanthus truly has some very beautiful trees in it. There is also tabebuia/handroanthus impetiginosus (aka pau d'arco) which has pink flowers instead of yellow ones. Well, thinking it probably was gophers, if your soil was full of air and you had to tamp it down, chezron. I would take a stake and start poking around in a circular manner, around the plant. See if you can find the tunnel emanating outward. I just use a very long screwdriver. If if is a little hard to push down, then it slips down easily, you know you've found your gopher tunnel. Set a couple of traps, facing back to back from each other, and you'll catch the culprit. Patty S.
