Orthosiphon aristatus 'Cat's whiskers' (white fl.)Â©

This is the white form of a popular tropical, subtropical, bush. There's also a mauve form which I have in full flower at the monent but the spikes/blooms aren't quite as spectacuar as these. I tried a photo yesterday but it just didn't do it justice. I'll try again at a different time of day.

What's the secret caring for Poinsettias. It's been years since I bought one, but this year Walmart had variegated leaves so I couldn't resist. I didn't notice until yesterday, the container it's in doesn't have drainage. Why and when does it need pruning and how much should be removed? What type of light? Can it be summered outdoors? I know they're cold sensitive, so it'd have to live in the LR which is warmer, but air is a little dry. Do they need lots of humidity? Here's a pic of my first Poin in years. Other Euphorbias are easy to care for, but I've never had luck w/Poins. What's everyone's secret? Thanks, Toni

Wow! You're good! I pasted Orthosiphon aristatus into a search engine and you're right, it does look like Cat's Whiskers. From this, I was able to learn it is not hardy here in upstate SC. Thanks, Adele!

I am new to this site. I love Hummingbirds and Butterflies. This is a nice thread and will be investigating many of these plants for my garden. I do want to advise you not to get discouraged if Hummers don't seem to like one plant because the following year they may go bonkers over it. I guess they are like humans, we all don't like the same food equally. One year they seem to fight over the trumpet vine. The next year they are just mildly interested in it. Two years ago they were crazy about the Hyacinth Bean Vine I planted for the first time, last year they could care less. Maybe the weather affects the nectar the plants produce. My trumpet vine is over 30 years old & I just continue to mow over the "suckers" that appear. Thanks for the wonderful suggestions.
