The most common causes are over/under-watering, too high a level of soluble salts in the soil (plasmolysis aka fertilizer burn), too much sun @ midday. The 'over-watering' issue could be from a collapsing or poor soil, even if you think you're not over-watering. When you're growing in a shallow pot, even a soil that supports only a half inch of perched water is unacceptable. If your pot is 3" deep and the bottom 1/2" of the soil is saturated, that is about 17% of the soil saturated - enough to root roots, impair root function, and cause the marginal or tip necrosis you inquire about. Not usually. When it starts in the summer months, it is the dry weather causing the problem unless one is overwatering or getting leaves wet for long periods. Fungal infections will require the often presence of moisture and that is just what many of us are looking from the skies! Hee hee hee! btw, the leaves will not recover of course but the problem should stop. If unsure of when to water, insert a finger into the soil to a depth of 4" and water if it feels dry or almost dry. Do not count the mulch on those 4" by the way.

The yellow fringe indicates over- rather than under-watering. Aspidistras can tolerate pretty dry compost so certainly tend towards dry. But to be honest don't worry overly as Aspidistras are very prone to these tips. If you get a sharp pair of scissors and cut the affected area off with one acute diagonal stroke, no one need ever know ;-)
