can i chop leaves off?

hello everyone...

i live in melbourne, and we are currently in the middle of a pretty scorching summer. anyway, i am growing tired of picking up my tipped-over potted-cuttings every single morning. i'm worried that eventually i'm going to awake to a tipped-over plumeria with a snapped stem or something similarly unpleasant.

anyway, i noticed that it is the leaves themselves that pick up the brunt of the wind, and probably the reason why they they topple over in the first place.

i liken this to a yacht with its sails up, and one without its sails up.

anyway, if i was to cut off all the leaves, leaving 'stubs' in their place, would it distress the plant at all???

thanks...
