Hi you should have taken the leaves off your cutting before you potted it Muzzbait
The tipping over everyday will not help it root either if it is moving
all the time it wont root at all do put it in a spot where it wont get
knocked about by the wind, and it should be alright.

these aren't the cuttings i rooted a few weeks ago. it's the cuttings i purchased from a store a few months back. the cuttings are coming along real good, so yeah...

do you reckon i should get rid of all the leaves for the frangis with an already-developed root system and inflos???

O sorry Muzz I thought they were the cuttings you got from here. I didnt know that you could buy cuttings in Melbourne, plants in pots yes do tell me where ( e-mail me if you want) as I have a Garden Webb member friend from down your way who is after some.

And how are your brissie cuttings coming along you say you rooted them gee that was quick, are you sure there are roots on them, or do you mean you just potted them up????

Now muzz if the plants that are falling over were store bought with roots why are they falling over, seems to me they must be top heavy, in other words too big for the pot do you think that! if so take them out and repot then into a bigger pot and that should fix your problems, no dont take the leaves off those store bought plants and do be carefull of those roots.

wowsers...repot them ALREADY??? how do i do that? i guess that makes more sense than anything else, so i should do it. how big a pot should i use? the ones that came with the frangi were about 10 - 15 cms in diametre...how big should i go?

heh...when i said 'rooted', i guess i meant potted...every single one apart from one or too have begun sprouting those 'claw leaves', so i am taking that as a good sign...

Muzz just because they are getting leaves does not mean they are rooting, there is still plenty of moisture in that stem to produce leaves,

You would have to work out the size yourself like how tall was the cutting if it is three times the hight of the pot it will fall over. Usually you go up a pot size but never more than two sizes bigger.

But seeing yours are only cuttings with no roots then it is best you leave them alone, put some pebbles on the pot or put a brick on them, or can you put all your potted cutting in a box where they wont move with he wind, if no boxes tnen group them all together and tie string or rope under the rim, there has to be a solution out there some where for you, just look around you will see it.

I think it is best if you just leave them in the pots muzz "DO NOT REPOT THEM" they are too young and wont have many roots if any and disturbing them now will be the worst thing you can do.

Just put them somewhere where they wont get knocked over by the wind.

Forget about the equation I am sorry I mentioned height, but a frangipani cutting would never fit in a 5cm pot.

heh...we're getting mixed up here.

the pre-potted frangi cuttings are the ones that are being blown over by the wind. the ones i potted myself are fine. absolutely fine. leaves are continuing to grow (on most of them...), and the stems are all firm and nice.

now, what is the procedure for re-potting frangis i have purchased from a store (by the way -- south melbourne market is a good place to buy potted frangi cuttings. between november and christmas only...). they are the only frangipanis that are being blown over. the ones that are in MINISCULE pots, yet have fully developed root systems, and sometimes ever twenty centimetres above the ground...

If you think they need repotting do them to a bigger size pot, any time is ok,
Yes I would water the new potting mix in, then water as you would nornally.

One way of overcoming pots falling over is to put about an inch of gravel on the top of the potting mix taking it just below the top of the pot. This will give good heat to the frangi and stabalize the pot. I have over 100 frangipanis in pots with an inch of gravel on top of the soil and they never blow over. Cheers. KL.

kiwilad, any suggestions on what is a good type of gravel to use? when i think of 'gravel', i think of the stuff that they have in parking lots. is there a particular type or brand of gravel that i should use???

There are many varieties of gravel as you say!! I use a small grade smooth one about the size of your little finger nail!! lol - more compact and makes a better cover than a courser variety. Got mine from a garden centre - but when I need some in a hurry I just go out on the road side and gather up the loose gravel - anything works - and its a great heat booster to the plants. Now living in the NT heat is not an issue!! I have sunk alot of my plants now into the garden and they seem to be enjoying that alot. Cheers. KL.
