Hi Abigail.Lyn, Welcome to Garden Web. Please see addressing newbie and newer member issues for instructions on getting your Member Page email link set up as well as your zone and location set up. An email link is necessary to be reached for trading and a location is beneficial in many ways. Some folks will not reply if there is no location shown. Sue

Try to place it closer to the tubes. Camellia sinensis varies quite a bit in cold tolerance, depending upon variety (low to high single digits). Bank mulch around the plant in mid december.

Here are excerpts from the Web Camellia Register about plant habits: 'Setsugekka': Leaves deep green, a little weeping. Upright, fast grower. Early flowering. 'Mine-no-yuki' AKA 'White Doves': Leaves, dull, dark green, sometimes variegated, 4 cm x 2.5 cm, slightly serrate, apices blunt acute. Habit is willowy, spreading, medium vigorous and blooms heavily. 'Winter's Snowman': Plant growth is upright, average and medium, with dark green leaves 7.5 cm long x 3.5 cm wide. You may also want to do an image search with your search engine of choice to get a visual idea of what these plants look like. If you're wanting shiny, dark leaves, Mine-no-yuki may not have leaves shiny enough? I don't see a camellia hybrid named 'White Snowman', but 'Winter's Snowman' is a cold-hardy Ackerman hybrid. I would be curious to hear from anyone who has grown these cold-hardy hybrids in warmer areas of the country? Here is a link that might be useful: Web Camellia Register

Since there is so little written about "Yuki's Dream," I wrote to Yuki Mikanagi to ask about it. Here's what she replied (and gave permission to quote): " I found the rose on my trip to Sichuan, China in 2001 with Mr. Mikinori Ogisu. Mrs. Helga Brichet from Italy and some other rose lovers from Japan were traveling together. I kept her in my garden for many years, and she bloomed very well all year round. I thought we need a name for her, and suggested some names to Mr. Ogisu on the 22nd of January, 2011, but he didn't like those names and he named her 'Yuki's Dream'!! In my garden, she grows like a short climbing rose. It looks like so-called 'Climbing Old Blush', but not the same. Collector: Yuki Mikanagi & Mikinori Ogisu Coll. No. : OM-0025 Date: April 28, 2001 Locality: Ma Jia He, Ping Wu, Sichuan, China." I'm sending this info to HMF as well, to update that nearly empty entry.
