Chandra, That is just terrible. The final reading from my rain guage this morning was 1 and 3/8 inches which is more than you have had all year. I have a french drain that collects water from around the storm shelter and moves it to another location. I have always just let it run into my garden. I am thinking now that I need to put a flexible hose/pipe on it so I have a choice of letting it go into the garden or to the north side of the house where it will run off. While it might be nice in summer to have twice the amount of rainfall for the garden, it is too much in the spring. I don't want to continue the solid pipe around and lose that option, but today it would be nice to have a little less. I tried to add some mulch to some tomato plants today and gave up. My foot kept sinking into the ground. If I continue around with solid pipe I would have to avoid it with gardening tools so I think I will just use flexible pipe and let it be a little 'redneck' feature. Not like it's the only one. LOL

G.M., Happy Rainy Day! I guess you got ours, because we have only received 6/100s of an inch of rain....3/100s of an inch in the early morning hours, and 3/100s of an inch just a little while ago. What does it take for us to get even a tenth of an inch in one day here? The temperature sure did drop though.....all the way to 75 degrees. The sun is shining here, though, and unless another shower forms, I guess we're still out of luck here. Dawn

We got rain overnight on Friday and Saturday morning. Now it is just very humid with some thunderstorms possible. My annuals are turning crisp as is the lawn. I am tired of watering and watering and the flowers still look awful. At this point they can either die or be saved by Mother Nature. We've had a bunch of those cruel joke "storms". The dark clouds roll in, I can hear the thunder and then -- the sun comes out again. What a stinking summer so far. I'm still grateful for the mild winter and lovely spring, though

Mary, I noticed several Fire Warnings issued for 3 different counties in the Texas panhandle yesterday to alert the public to road closures, particularly those involving state highways. That was my first clue that West TX was having some monster fires. I hope no one was injured and that no one lost their homes. Oldbusy1, I know the storms were headed your way when they left here and the further from us that they got, the bigger the hail was. I hope y'all came through it all okay and I especially hope the hail missed you....or, if it hit you, I hope it was smally like our hail was. OSUengineer, I've been following that fire like crazy. It is just horrifying how fast it moved. I've seen some fires move fast and burn a lot of land in a brief time, but the biggest fire I've ever been at myself was only 15,000 acres (and it was in 50+ mph wind gusts so it was very frightening), which is a big fire, but 15,000 acres is nothing at all compared to the Anderson Creek fire. The most recent number I saw for total acreage burned is around 400,000 and there was supposed to be a new briefing at 8 pm, so I am sure there is a more current number. With aerial mapping they can get pretty precise numbers even as they fire burns, which is a big change from the old days. I hope all the people in the path of the fire and all the firefighters and all their support staff remain safe because a fire this extreme is so dangerous. I can't help thinking, too, of all the animals in the path of the fire, whether domestic livestock or wildlife and, of course, there are bound to be ranchers who lost everything. It is hard to evacuate all your animals when there's a fire coming at you that fast. March is turning out to be a pretty tough wildfire month for much of the state (and obviously for TX and KS too). We need lots of rain and a fast green-up to help slow down the fires. I think we've been so lucky down here precisely for that reason----for the last 2 or 3 Red Flag Fire Warnings that have been issued for our county, absolutely nothing has happened. We're crossing our fingers and hoping that means our winter wildfire season has ended early down here. Dawn
