Is it White Maman Cochet?

I'm now not sure what this rose is but it's very pretty and I hope someone can id it for me. Thanks to everyone who has contacted me for your help .......

Hi Tricornose

I am including a link to a page that has two pics of WMC. When I loaded these to the net I wasn't sure of the name but I have been assured by the people I got the cutting from that it is WMC. Also most people on the forum felt that it was WMC. The pics are the two to the left in the bottom row. BTW I know that Octavius Weld is not. I think it may be a Madame Lombard?

My WMC are fuller than your pics. I think the pink edge can vary greatly according to the climate so I wouldn't rely too heavily on that. I can't think of any other options at the moment but I'm sure you'll get some helpful replies. I would imagine that WMC would be very difficult to keep as a standard, it is a monstrous bush.

Sorry, I hit "Submit" too soon. Here's a couple more photos from this spring. Jackie, I think most of that yellow cast was not in the original. I remember the flower that was in the last photo of my original post was startlingly white. And in my garden Maman Cochet (climber and bush) is very double. I have a White MC bush from RU in a pot, and I was just comparing the leaves - very similar, but I don't know what a real Chromatella looks like. White MC had a few flowers a few weeks ago, but I guess I didn't take pics of it. The photos on HMF of White Maman Cochet look very close to this rose. Of course, I'll wait to see what else this plant produces, but I just don't think Chromatella is supposed to have this much pink on it. Sherry

Thank you to K S, Joh and Paula! Roses that didn’t make it here at the old place (that I can remember off the top of my head): Dames de Chenonceau; Versigny; Francois Blaise (sp?); Condesa de Sastago; Lady Emma Hamilton; and a couple others that I’d need to see the list to name. They have transplanted 100+ of our old collection to the new place already. It’s going to be a much smaller garden, because of water concerns. I was amazed at how some of the bigger teas (really huge plants) survived essentially being “bare rooted“ and just started shooting out growth from thick, old wood the second they were in the ground at the new place: Niles Cochet; Mons. Tillier; Mme. Antoine Mari; Old Town Novato; Clementina Carbonieri; Rosette Delizy and many others I can’t recall. Now, if we can only keep the deer pressure off of them. We have been spraying deer repellent regularly, and it remains to be seen if that’ll help

In the peach to buff, to orange and red color range with pink; 'Anna Olivier' is the strongest scented Tea, that I have ever smelled and I've had the joy of smelling every Tea at Vintagegardens.com home garden and S.J.H.R.G.. Crepescule' trumps 'Perle d'or for fragrance, and in our garden is more resistant to disease. All year it is nearly clean. -Monsieur Tillier, which is very disease resistant in my garden where conditions favor p.m. over blackspot. I can only detect a light fragrance from the last two. I have loved Mlle. Cecille Brunner' longer than any other rose, both my grandmother and mother grew it and I have the original form, the spray form as well as the climbing form. The spray form does bloom far more than the climbers. I detect a strong fragrance, of damask rose with a tiny bit of black pepper as a scent note finish from all of them. except the white sport, which smells more like a floral blend with a touch of lemon. with 10 feet left of the spread, I would plant a 'Grandmothers Hat' for fragrance, it has a very resistance to disease, here. In cool weather this rose produces gorgeous lilac-pink blooms with the mauve tint being stronger. It has a long bloom season and the quickest re-bloom of any H.P. I've ever seen or grown. Oh what fun, to have so much room still available. I only water my mature Tea and Tea-Noisette roses c. twice a month in spring and autumn and 3 times a month in the hottest weeks of summer. I don't water them at all in winter, because we get a good amount of rain, usually, during that season. When they are mature sized plants, -the partial shade will lessen the amount of water you need to use. -adding 4"+ of mulch to the bed, (kept a couple inches away from the base of the canes, ) will also lessen the amount of water you use on rosebushes. I often forget to water my Teas and I've never seen their leaves droop, which would indecate dehydration. Lux. P.S. I placed a 'Mermaid' in my backyard against a fence where I have espaliered her size within bounds to where she will grow to be 4 and 1/2 feet from the fence outwards, and I've given her an allotment of 25' width. I adore this rose.

Thank you for the ideas Gean and Zaphod Gean, do you have some more early HT you like? I have the ones you listed to do some research on. Zaphod, that is pretty, I will be looking in to her as well. Hoovb, thanks for the heads up on that one. I made my list up from previous threads with peoples favorite roses. But of course, they will do differently in different areas. But I already have the DA queen of nasty on stick, her blooms are wonderful and smell fabulous when the weather is right, but the rest of the time YUCK. My love/hate rose, Janet. There is a 'Souvenir de Pierre Notting' in the rose garden at the mission, I guess I need to stop in more often and check out how it looks. thanks all!

I agree with Sally that WMC would be too vigorous and weighty to be used as a standard.Looking at my 3yr old bush,she is going to be a BIG lady,very soon.
My blooms look identical to Sally's pics.
The petal count is 80+ and the leaves are mid green.

Thanks Kev, Sally and Pam. Roses can look different depending on where they are growing etc etc. Well, I'm fresh out of ideas re what it might be but at least I know now what it is not. I'm just guessing too when I say it's an old tea. I think I mentioned that it opens out flat and fades to white. Once it reaches this stage, the flowers stay on the stem for quite some some before dropping. It also has a very pleasant perfume, a bit lemony, I think, and has four flowers to the truss? (is this the right expression?). Anyway, thanks all for your input

Thought it might be Pristine,but its blooms are big,tempted to suggest Seduction,it becomes flat as it ages.

I looked through one of my rosebooks this morning and am inclined to agree with plaur-Seduction looks closest to it so far and is commonly used as a standard also.

Sally, my rose is so like your photo, but it can't be WMC according to some descriptions I have been given by people on here who have it. It definitely isn't Madame Lombard, my rose isn't this pink. The photos I took do show a lot of pink but mainly my rose is more pale lemon to white. Also my rose would be at least seven years old and therefore, I don't think it would be Seduction. When was Seduction released?

Anyway, here's a lucky last photo of the fully opened rose. I think I shall just have to enjoy this rose without ever knowing who she is ......... Thanks all

Seduction aka Matilda,Pearl of Bedfordview,Charles Aznavour.
Pretty good photo in the large Botanica under Matilda.
I suspect its been around awhile as Chas A,release date is 1998,but it won 2 gold medals in 1987!Meilland.
I like this rose in the early stages but it hangs on forever looking grey/white and flat.
Hope this helps some more!

Sorry Tricornose, my rose is nothing like your photo. Mine is fuller and does not display such interesting, prominent stamens etc. The Mme Lombard comment was referring to the pink rose on my site that I have labeled as Octavius Weld but is not. I mentioned it simply because people eventually point out that it is not OW.

I think Seduction might be a good bet.

Sally, I misunderstood your email, apologies. I am not up enough on my roses to know what OW looks like, never mind, mistake your rose for it! Plaur, Matilda sounds very promising and has all the right attributes except Botanica says it has no perfume and my rose definitely does have perfume, not as strong as old roses and DA's but enough to say its definitely there. Perhaps Botanica has just got the perfume thing wrong, if you are familiar with the rose then you will know whether or not it has any (Matilda, that is). I agree that it does hang on a bit and is rather flat but the plant, from a distance, along with other roses looks ok in the garden, whereas other roses lose their petals in a messy fashion, mine does not (whatever its name)
