Roses and more roses

Haven't had any roses on here for a while so I am putting on some of ours.

Dolly Parton. My Sony camera doesn't take a good red, I miss my Nikon. Dolly Parton is a beautiful shade of bright red, and has a super perfume too.

This is Fragrant Charm, another different red

This is High Hopes such a prolific grower, I am continually cutting off huge branches to try to keep it down but only more grow, but it is a lovely delicate pink with a nicely shaped bud

Jopsephine Bruce one of my mother's favourites, has a lovely perfume and a lovely shape too.

Brandy is another lovely shaped bud, similar to Just Joey

BrassBand, a gorgeous orange on the outside and buttery yellow reverse

Lovely Joyfulness, changes colour so often

I looked at the blooms first and thought.. that doesn't look like Dolly. Brass band looks more orange to my eye too
It's not only refreshing to have someone posting, but I love your blooms.

It is so much fun when Forum friends come up to visit. For some reason, Mary's Teasing Georgia was the Austin that gave me confidence I could grow them, and now many of them do well for me. It is a beautiful rose, and people walk over to the end of the high school building just to look at it. I started taking care of our roses in March of 2004, and started gardening (redesigning and reconfiguring areas etc) that November. It's amazing to see how the plants mature and what happens. This spring flush is something unbelievable...and each year seems to get better and better. Each year I try to have a theme. This year, it's "Feed the Roses". I am trying to do something nice for them once every month.

New edition of the Encyclopedia of Roses

My old one was falling apart too. So I was very interested when I saw this new edition. I searched the internet and finally found a review by someone who had actually seen it and they said that it was just a reprint of the old edition, no new material. Like Nastarana I really enjoy the Q-Rs opinionatedness and would love to read their opinions on some of the recently released roses.

Funny, but I think I can smell it just by looking at your photo! Beautiful. I have never grown it, but I do have one once blooming rose, Canary Island. which is very well scented also and never ever gets a spot of any kind of disease on the foliage. It's been said that once bloomers are more healthy foliage wise. Yes, worth the wait. Thank you for the photo.

Hi ginnybee Yes you are right!! It is a Delbard rose and new for me this year. I bought it as a shrub,planted it and it has grown like mad. It is already taller than me (5'4) and it has prolific blooms. Fantastic plant.Excellent disease resistance. If you look at the Delbard catalogue you will find it in the Painters section. I would recommend it if you like the colours.It has a long vase life as well as the blooms lasting up to 10 days on the plant. cheers Michelle

Thank you Inga, so nice that you are still looking in. Thank you also for your nice comments. The photo of Dolly Parton doesn't do her justice. Wish I could borrow Mary Ann's camera to show it off properly. My Brass Band is quite orange, lovely buttery yellow on revese - photo is fairly true to colour.

Hi Heather, how nice to hear from you. How are you doing? I do hope you don't live anywhere near Christchurch, and that the earthquake didn't affect you in any way. We are thinking of you all and feeling so terribly sorry for the people in N.Z., and now Japan. Poor people, bad enough for the quake and tsunami - but now the nuclear power plants under threat it is even worse

Lovely roses Tricia.I love the Josephine Bruce.I can see the velvety look and know they have a wonderful scent.

I only want to know when to replant roses, because we now have rider mower....and we want to move 5 of them. They are were bought and planted 2 years ago now.

Hi Cheryl, The best time is when it is cold. We plant bare rooted in June-July August at the latest, but I've even put them in at any time and hoped for the best. Roses are very resiliant and if you cut them back to a healthy point, they will usually grow with a good water and a root stimulant. Nice to see you coming to visit even with all those rotten ads that have completly ruined what used to be a lovely site.

Hello. Lovely show Trich, I haven't been here for awhile, those trash adds turned me off and then my computer completely crashed and I've not long installed a new one with Windows 7, which I'm struggling with. I think I need to do a formal TAFE course or similar to come to grips with it. Anyway, will persist.
