She was wonderful -- so charming and direct and enthusiastic and funny. Last night she shared her obsession with tender perennials in containers, how she disguises walls and frames views into her garden with them, and lots of mentions of how much she enjoys shopping at Logee's. Today at a workshop she talked about color, and showed some more really terrific slides. Her color wheel really is a nice expansion on the artist's version, and I think it will be fun to haul it around the garden and nurseries thinking about my garden. I plan to hear Fergus Garrett talk (and attend his workshop which is now sold out) in 2 weeks. Definite food for thot. Best, ML

Okay, the excitement is mounting... :-) I have 4 containers that need flowering plans so I will be looking for advice on those... 2 in direct sun and 2 shaded in am and sun in pm. Also looking for something for along a section of fence that is shaded in am and part sun pm. Is anyone bringing any variety of Day Lilly other than orange?? I have bagged up fern, chives, lilac... This is my first year owning a home and I plan on having LOTS more to share by next year!! I am SOOooo happy to have been told about ths group!! Thank you again, Dawiff!!!! Fran, I have the plates and napkins all loaded in my mini-van! (Really, I'm just too excited about this!! LOL) See you tomorrow!!! Cindy

Thanks for posting this, Bob. I came on RMG today to share the link below. Hope it is okay to put something here about perverse Cucumber Tendrils. It is kind of a similar theme and even sounds a bit naughty, eh? BTW - when those table lights came out that were supposed to turn on/off when someone touched the plant growing in the attached pot, my neighbor bought one. She claimed that I was the only person to get the thing to work. I noticed that the light, pot & plant disappeared only a few days after I performed my amazing stunt . . . Tony: point taken. I always use scientific names for that reason. I do think that a parallel system is valuable, as it encourages people to see the connections between species. Lilies have 6 stamens (the ones with pollen), Orchids have 1 or 2. At least, that's what they taught me at school. The best grown speciosum I've seen was parked in the fork of a messmate in full sun. It was monsterous. I vaguely recall from ANOS presentations that they only flower every 5-7 years or so, Lynne thinks that they only flower once on each pseudopod (or was it tentacle?) and only when that is fully mature. So maybe you just have to be patient.
