Another use of pots

I love frogs and noticed a few years ago that one was living in a waterwell pot. I have since bought 6 more and each has a frog move in!I now have a whole village of frog houses, the pots have plants too but I have to watch what I put in the water, one day I used some seaweed fertiliser and they complained!

How cute!! Who would have thought they would pop in there? It's probably a good safe place from predators. Well done.

I have a waterwell trough sitting on my kitchen windowsill, outside, which is home to several frogs, at least 4, that eat the moths that come to the window at night. Love watching the frogs hunt when I'm cleaning up after tea. I don't know how they can fit through the little hole though as the frogs are rather big.

Whenever I water they always complain, same as the ones that live in a block retaining wall - often make me jump because of the sudden noise.

CMK- If you try eggplants in pots, chances are you will find as I and many others have found that they seem to do better in containers than in the ground. I use what they call "Al's mix", a very well draining and aerated mix, but I'm sure any good container "potting mix" will do well too. I do mine in 5 gallon containers and they get 6 or 7 feet tall, bushy and crank out fruit until frost. I do peppers the same way and they do really well also.....both much better than any I was able to grow in the ground. Especially the egglants will need watering daily when they get going, unless you do a self-watering container. I've done some winter squash, but they don't do as well. Have fun!

I don't really like them because I don't think they distribute nutrients evenly. And sometimes when I used to use them a long time ago when I tried to stick the stick in I could hear roots ripping and that just sounds painful. I find the dilution and application of liquid fertilizer to be much easier, safer and reliable. My two cents.

Thanks for all your comments! Jemsta, keep an eye on the future offerings from C&H because an east coast grower told me that they are recreating this cross once more and would be offering it. I'm even planning to get couple more seedlings for myself :) Gin, a took approx. 40 pictures using different settings until I found one that's good enough to represent the true colors. It's a good thing we live in the digital camera age because otherwise, photo developing cost will run next to my orchids cost ;) -Harvey

Sounds like you might have a cyst in the side of the one that the saline won't go into. Or maybe you're just swollen from inflammation from allergies? Some of us have very small openings from our maxillary sinuses to our nose. Sometimes it doesn't take much swelling for it to close up. You could try taking something like Sudafed and then try it again. I had surgery to enlarge those holes and life has been much better since! One thing that I think people misunderstand is that the saline isn't supposed to go into the sinuses. Its supposed to just wash away antigens that are in the nose, so they don't get pushed up into the sinuses.

Love your frogs they are great dutchie, I have a waterwell pot too and it had a big green frog in it also, but with currant water restrictions I decided to let the plant in it die so now the frog has moved to the down pipe close by.
By the looks of the one on the left it is well fed and maybe if it keeps that up it might not be able to get out again
