I put them on from my Photobucket account where I store all my photo's so I can upload them to other forums..

I probably should have taken some step-by-step pictures as I made the framework into a bumble bee. It was a difficult process for me & I actually had to take it all apart & start over. I can follow step-by-step directions, if they are clear, but creating something on my own took a heck of a lot of trial-and-error. Even though I didn't get a very good final photo, I'm pretty proud of my results. Marylee: Yes, most of my garden, except for some cactus & a morning glory vine, is made of soda cans. --- Laura

So you can tell by looking at the plant whether you have thrips or not? You didn't see any evidence of them in my photos, yorkrose? Yes, I have had winter moths for the past four years. It is really a pain, but I keep observing to see how it changes from year to year. This year they were late, but they did show up. They weren't as bad as previous years. One year my two Maples had very visible holes all over the tree. This year I can't see a lot at all. It's even more annoying when they drop down onto plants in the yard. But on the other hand, there are lots of birds that have started camping out for the abundance of food. I see starlings especially like them and are in the trees hunting and pecking. I've seen sparrows eating them and this year I've been amazed to see Orioles hopping around in the trees eating them. So I've held off on using the BT. Right now I think with the few roses I have, hand picking and close observation may keep things manageable. I hope! [g] Kate, are there bugs that eat the sawfly larvae? York Rose, thanks for that link. I see they are supposed to feed until mid June. I've already seen a noticeable dropoff in activity.

Yeah, I saw that too; first time I had ever read or seen that kind of comment... caught my attention also. The phrase is worded in such a way that the "legal-ist" among us might have a field day. Such as defining, "Officials" (who??) and "most" wasp & hornet sprays. In my judgment, I would tend to disagree with the news quote. While it could be argued there may be better solutions (pardon the pun... such as a dish-washing soapy water spray), I'm not at all sure that what most of us think of, in terms of common "wasp and hornet" sprays (Raid, Ortho, etc.), could be used without causing more alarm among the colony. Since these type sprays attack (almost, instantaneously) the nerve system of the insects, alarm pheromone release seems most unlikely to me. I'd be interested in talking to any entomologist (as opposed to nebulous, "officials") who's actually done any scientific research into this aspect. Labeling directions on these wasp and hornet sprays also state they're good for use on bees: "FOR OUTDOOR USE: To kill paper wasps, yellow jackets, mud daubers, bald-faced hornets, and bees". And for personal observation (as a beekeeper), I've actually seen wasp & hornet spray used to kill a swarm and I certainly didn't detect any alarm pheromone release (either through the tale-tale banana odor or through the reaction of the bees, themselves). They died rather quickly (couple of seconds at most) without taking flight. The comment appears 'suspect' to me.

Thanks. It seems like the right bug, although the description I just read puts then the same size as a honey bee and these are smaller. There seem to be about 5 of them and they are 'cutting' everything between the veins of about 3 plants on my porch.

I just love to look at your "fotos" of creatures, but not too close personally.
The dragonfly foto is superb.
Nice to see some posting here. I visit every day and come away disappointed

MM those are lovely photos. You've probably been asked the same question 100 times but what sort of camera are you using? I've still got the original Kodak digital cam I must have bought 9 (?) years ago - I was happy enough with it for years but it never allowed such close shots. Unfortunatly the old girl is gradually falling apart and now held together with rubber bands (I feel a bit the same myself).

Don't know if you've noticed but after so long of dry, there were no grasshoppers and I didn't realise until this last wet and suddenly those hungry little babies are out on everything, and the freaky looking ladybirds on the daturas, and LOTS of caterpillars.

Hi Inga, I look in occasionally too, this was THE best garden forum for years, but the ads drove most people mad and they went away.

Would be nice to build up the traffic a bit - do you have any photos to share?

Thanks Alison.. I have a Canon DSLR 40D and a few lenses, these five pics were taken with my macro lens.

Its Insect Paradise in our garden there are so many caterpillars and bugs devouring everything, I even seen a Taipan coming through the front fence three week ago and I was mowing the front grass two afternoons later and much to my surprise a green snake was laying in the short grass having a snooze it soon went up into the dead tree trunk where the Wisteria is climbing so I got a pic of it later..
