crepe myrtle & aphids

Ive been looking for ages for the perfect small tree for an area which desperately needs some summer shade/winter sun, and the crepe myrtle sounds perfect, especially since it flowers in the summer and will have autumn leaf colour to boot! its everything I want in this spot, but...

from what Ive been reading they are aphid magnets? does anyone have one and are they really that bad with aphids? I was thinking of getting one of the indian summer ones.

any advice is appreciated before I take the plunge and get them :)
