Your question has sat there unanswered so long I felt any "hello" might be welcome.
No I don;t have a glasshouse or grow veggies or live in Adelaide.
I can see your problem though. As i understand our climates, you have a very hot summer (things stew) but a potentially shorter growing period than my area.
So, your GH will be excellent for early starting things, to plant out elsewhere.
Could I suggest you try some of the US forums for GW - there are many of those. Your zone would probably be 9 0r 10 to them. As long as you do not try to exchange plant material between here and USA, information exchange is quite free and welcome. There are forums for tomatoes and more.

Yep, I have a hobby which it would seem is an unusual one for S.A.
Just an update the tomatoes have started to flower (Grosse lisse). The books say I have to use an electric tooth brush or some vibrating device.on the flower because of the lack of bees. Lots to learn.
The broccoli also inside my GH are booming which I would of thought odd seeing they are a winter veggie, it sure is nice to grow that one with out using sprays and still seeing them bug free..I yesterday bought some strawberries and while I realize they are a more longer term proposition I will try for interest sake.
I think it odd Alison that there are no references for using domestic GH in SA , I can find nothing on the web or in the library.
I was feeling lonely and it was nice of you to answer. I have left various posts in the American sites but those guys think big with domestic GH 30 feet long and 20 feet wide. Some of their suggestions include installing coolers and gas heaters, automatic vents etc. too big for me.
I am off to shake my plants. hope the guy next door don't see me.

Seonau, I have only just now put up my greenhouse again (it's a tent-like structure). Usually I keep any plants in there that don't like frost. So it's pretty crammed in winter. In summer I dismantle it, as it gets far too hot for a greenhouse.

I keep my chillies and capsicums in pots in the greenhouse. This way I can prolong the growing season and get an early start on those things, too. I have also put some pots of tomatoes in there for the first time. Let's see how that goes. (BTW, you just have to shake the plants/flowers for pollination. That should do nicely. As they are self-pollinating they only need a breeze...)

Broccoli, etc. are outside as they like some winter chill.

Keep us up-to-date as to how you are doing with your greenhouse. :)

I am up in the Adelaide Hills. Some neighbours have a greenhouse with tomatoes and eggplants and have been growing them in there all summer. They have it north facing and all!

I'm so jealous, I'd love to get a little glasshouse. In my work we use glasshouses and it's a simple matter of covering the whole thing with shade cloth during the summer. Some nursery-people white wash, which just means painting all the glass with lime/whiting and water to reflect the sun. When the weather starts to cool down again you simply scrub it off the glass with a broom and a hose. An important feature is opening vents in the top of your glasshouse. Does it have these? If not you really need to modify it to enable hot air to escape in hot weather.

I'm a spice fanatic so if it was my glasshouse I'd have pepper vines, vanilla orchids, tropical gingers and turmerics, galangal etc, maybe a small clove tree kept bonzai style :P~~~ dream on....

I have the worst back garden in Southern Australia I am sure, but I cant keep away from my G.H. You will see me visit it at night as many as five or six times with torch light and excitement, marking the tomato strings to gauge to almost hourly growth. I am Hooked.
Next I must work out what to grow inside, which is editable, mind you the ginger and vanilla I will google and research ty Jamus.
I recencently saw a picture of a great looking G.H. which was very cleverly made.This guy had collected old wooden sash windows, carefully arranged and trimmed them so all the first row were level . then the second level etc and plonked a gable sash window type roof on top....looked really good. I have also contacted a commercial wholesaler who is more than willing to sell his off cuts of horticultural film to any one. All you would need is a frame. Easy that one. The other that I have not seen in home gardens which wood be a snap to build is a hoop tunnel. Made as long or short as you would like, bend a bit of (cheap) pvc pipe and cover with hort.film...easy peezy. It wouldn't need to be high could be as tall as your knees, Put in a drip line you got a .bug free mini glass house.
Now, let get this clear, I know nothin, but its sure interesting thinking about these things.
Jamus ..yep my G.H. has a roof vent and clips to attached shadecloth too Hey you ever thought about a working bee you place? Get together a few interested people and supply the b.b. q. and I bet three work days later (probably less) you can have you G.H.. Just a thought.
