Still waiting on my Purple Rose to open as well as my Luang Siam Yellow. Driving me crazy with the wait. But any day now. Here's a Purple Rose that opened that I had picked up for my sister. The flower buds are smaller than mine and looks like the petals are a little more pointed and jagged than what mine will be. Marie commented on the flower in the background of my seedlings picture on my seedling thread so I thought I'd post this update on that particular DR. Here's a pic I found on the internet of the Hassadee Red. What my Hassedee Red looked like the day it opened. What my Hassadee Red looked like after a couple of days. The blue edging faded way too quickly. It seems to be getting a darker magenta red the older it gets. I'll have to get a picture when the next bloom opens to show the difference. I was hoping the red would have been a more vibrant red. But I still like it. Kirk

Thanks everyone. It was a fun time. Now that spring is upon us, I would encourage folks to see if there is a cactus and succulent society in your area. They have super shows and sales. You also get to hang out and meet other people that love these crazy plants. The haworthias were huge Roro. That variegated one was so awesome. And the cono collection...well, yes, I'm in such admiration. Mr. Mcharris - are there any shows for you to enjoy up there in the northlands? More field trips to share in the future. I saw a large stump of a tree from a former huge cattleya guava tree that got frozen in the '89 freeze, so the potential to get very large is there. However, my (multi-trunked) tree is about 8 years old now and it is only about 9 or 10 feet tall. It has been care free with no problems. Some light pruning on occasion is all that is required. It did get some freeze damage when very young but it recovered nicely. It is better to treat it like a landscape plant because it is so attractive. It is not a heavy feeder like a citrus plus it needs to be mulched. Are you sure that you weren't reading about the regular tropical guava in the bulletin? The feijoa (pineapple guava) is not even in the same family as the guava. Pineapple guava is just a nickname. Pell's sells the ornamental kind of feijoa. I bought one from them years ago and the fruit was just terrible. If you are looking for the edible kind you want the large fruit variety only found at specialty nurseries.
