I have had a non grafted white Jacaranda tree in my front yard for 6 years,it flowers every year. I looked up today and saw 2 seed pods all green hanging in the same spot.I had to read when to take them off the tree and they have to be woody and brown.I don't want them to fall off the tree as they might open and I will loose them. I have only seen grafted White Jacarandas as I bought 3 for my older kids who have their own homes now.So,I now know I have the Mummy tree and don't have to buy them any more.I am very happy.

Yes, I've got a grafted white one and a grafted semiserrata. The semis. has only been in about a month and is growing rapidly. The white has been in about a year and is about 2 metres. No flowers yet. I think I read in Botannica's trees and Shrubs it can grown to 70 feet in the wild but much less in cultivation. In warm climates I suspect it can be a big tree. On giving them a good spanking to make them flower, that is generally true, but true to many if not all flowering plants, especially wooded ones. I do that to my bonsai wisteria each year and it flowers away like mad. If I don't, it doesn't. The same affect can be achived if you cultivate around the root zone and especially if you have to cut through a strong root for one reason or another. My horticulure teacher of years ago told me that a good spanking or root disturbance makes the plant think it is going to die so it attempts to hurridly reproduce itself, hence a good flowering season and subsequent seeding.

I'm begging you - don't waste your money or time and hopes, on seed. Jacaranda can take 4-7 years from seed to flower, growing from seed is no guarantee of colour, form or vigour. The only way you can get what you want, is to track down a supplier of a GRAFTED white form, and get some references cos I can tell you here in Australia I found it very hit and miss in the early days of these becoming available, and wasted a lot of money losing badly grafted trees. And there only a couple of white ones in my local area that are anything to look at, I still think the purple are a superior one for flowering and vigour. IMHO of course heh heh Alison
