I got the mamm luethyi a few years back on ebay non-grafted...however, while I don't know for sure I really think they were collected from the wild so I was very upset when I received the plants - they looked too large to have been seed grown. I unknowingly helped to support the illegal collection of plants from their habitats. I make sure to take extra special care of that plant because I now know that it is not readily available on it's own roots. But as you can see from the photos I think the plant is happy and hence so am I. I've heard they root easily from cuttings, so you could buy a grafted plant and take some cuttings off of it. I've also seen seed available if you have some patience.

Swiss The sprouts come out in the third photo are tubercles forming. I use the seedling grafting for: To collect rare cactus seeds in short time in-house. Almost all gragted seedlings are in flower 1 year later after sowing. I experience that Turbinicarpus laui got a flower 3 months after sowing. I also try to develop new hybrid cactus. I need a quick life cycle of plant to develop new one. I narmally de-graft grafted cactus once collected seeds and size becomes larege enough. I use 2 methods of de-grafting. One is normal de-grafting and the other is remained short vascular bundles of grafting stock. In 2nd case, roots come out from the vascular bundles and remained grafted character. Frank

M. luethyi is not offered as seeds yet! And when seeds will be offered within some years, they will be expensive as the fruits stay in the plant body (like M. theresae). Here in Europe, the grafted plants are dropping in prices the last couple of years. Three years ago, you still payed about 20 euro for a small grafted plant. Now you can find these for about Â3. And some nurseries here are offering them as rooted plants as well now (but still very expensive). Rooting this species is not very difficult. About as easy as M. theresae. Pieter
