Luther Burbank attempted to cross D.virginiana and D.kaki, but there's no convincing evidence in his writings that he was able to accomplish the feat - though there is a persimmon variety, "Keener", which some claim was bred, as a hybrid, by Burbank. I'm not convinced that it is a hybrid - but it is good, so I'm not worried about whether it is or not. Would a hybrid pollenize Meader? Only if it were a male tree. Nikita's Gift and Rosseyanka are frequently mentioned as being crosses of asian and american persimmons. Though I don't recall reading whether these crosses are more easily pollinated by american or asian varieties. I seem to recall a difference in the number of chromosonal pairs as being the reason Asian and american persimmon do not easily cross.
