A seedling Brom bought a couple of years ago, starting to show its form{{gwi:2111812}}
A new lily scented too.

A pansy still flowering

Sobralia orchid

I like the colour of the brom Heather its very striking.
And the pastel colours of the pansy and Lily look terrific.
But that orchid is so beautiful....All very pretty.

Great photos and some nice colours. I especially love the orchid. Your brom looks so neat, for some reason my dogs have an attraction, or take a dislike, to my broms and have a chew on them occasionally so they are always tatty looking. At least they are tough.

The botanical name is now Thinopyrum ponticum (it was also called Agropyron elongatum). http://plants.usda.gov/plantguide/pdf/pg_thpo7.pdf The history of Jose is here (scroll down to Thinopyrum): http://plant-materials.nrcs.usda.gov/releases/releasesallbysci.html The term "select" means that it is a wild population that has undergone some selection for desired traits, but it is not quite a "cultivar" (or even a "landrace" for that matter). So "select" isn't really part of the name per se. It can cross with domestic wheat to yield a perennial grain crop. You can download a 2007 article in Scientific American here: http://www.landinstitute.org/vnews/display.v/ART/2007/12/10/476071d269717 The image comparing the roots of domestic wheat versus those of Thinopyrum are worth the effort! I am considering starting some this year; I have no experience with it yet.

Is 6/6 available I think it is most appropriate for an 1800 home in Connecticut. I ordered from rings end 6/1 for my 100 year old house to tie in with the originals i still have. I think I know your house. I almost bought the older fixer upper at the bottom of the street by the marina entrance before the town beach :)

All very pretty!

GH, dogs DO have a tendency to nibble on the centres of the broms - perhaps it has to do with the water perhaps being a bit smelly?! Or perhaps the centres are simply nice and succulent??

I loved all the photos but the Lily especially, something I can only grow as a one-off here and then the ground devours them.

We had the same issue with our dogs and the broms - but we found if you put just a drop of citronella oil in the water they won't go anywhere near it, even stopped them peeing on them which is always a bonus :) Now we don't need the oil in the water as they seem to have learnt to stay clear. Lovely pics!
