Great photos and some nice colours. I especially love the orchid. Your brom looks so neat, for some reason my dogs have an attraction, or take a dislike, to my broms and have a chew on them occasionally so they are always tatty looking. At least they are tough.

Athens Select lantana - not so select.

I know that this is a very old thread. I found it when googled "Athens Rose Lantana" Has anyone had luck with this hybrid? I live in San Antonio, which is in South Texas. Very hot summers. Mild winters. I planted it in April and zip...nada. Other lantanas in the same location in my garden are doing fine. I also planted a new Hybrid called Rose Glow from Landmark in the same area. Rose Glow is beautiful and performing wonderfully. Is this a winter blooming/short day lantana? By that I mean that the white and purple trailing lantanas don't bloom in the summer around here. They stop blooming around April 1st, and resume in October. Although frost will stunt the Lantana Montevidis, it quickly grows back and will often bloom in the winter. The Lantana Camara hybrids are summer bloomers down here. I'm just frustrated because Athens Rose seems to be taking up a lot of room in my garden and I have no idea when or if it would bloom. Thank you very much,

Coming up with salt tolerant plants is easy, but salt tolerant tropicalesque plants would require a little research. You might be able to get a quick answer from people in the Tropicalesque Gardens Forum if no one speaks up here. I've never bought any sod. Here is a link that might be useful: See list at bottom of this page.

Opinions on Select Maple vs.Quarter Sawn Oak select
Q

If you want a light result, then quarter sawn white oak finished natural using a high quality professional waterborne polyurethane is the way to go. You will get an assortment of browns, tans and blondes in such a floor, and it still will be light overall. Quarter sawn red oak finished the same will also give you a light result, but the floor will show mostly pink and beige tones. Maple is nice also. Different 'grades' in that product as well, so know what you're buying to avoid disappointment.

Confused about selecting the right island hood. 5 Questions.

Hmmmm. (motor noise) Everything in that attic except the extra 4-inches in diameter of the silencer would be needed even with a VaH Magic Lung® hood. And the VaH might not equal the flow achieved here (guessing 600 CFM at full power) even with 2 x 600 CFM rated blowers due to their fan curves. I don't have one to compare, but from others' comments my guess is that when the VaH is actually moving 600 CFM, it is noisier, as the blade tip turbulence is right next to your ears competing with the baffle hiss of the baffle system next to your ears. And ease of motor replacement (total time per decade or two) does not dominate the time difference in washing baffles in a dishwasher plus some hand cleaning in the hood volume vs. removing and cleaning the entire grease collecting area of the VaH. In this case, comparing apples to apples requires addressing the stems and seeds.

All very pretty!

GH, dogs DO have a tendency to nibble on the centres of the broms - perhaps it has to do with the water perhaps being a bit smelly?! Or perhaps the centres are simply nice and succulent??

A nice Neo, Heather, aren't you patient!
I loved all the photos but the Lily especially, something I can only grow as a one-off here and then the ground devours them.

We had the same issue with our dogs and the broms - but we found if you put just a drop of citronella oil in the water they won't go anywhere near it, even stopped them peeing on them which is always a bonus :) Now we don't need the oil in the water as they seem to have learnt to stay clear. Lovely pics!
