hmmm, good question Lynn. I've rerooted both Aloe dichotoma and Aloe ramossissima. I made a straight across cut. The roots actually start forming on the cut line. The rooting won't take place until September. I know this from constantly checking an Aloe dichotoma which I had to cut from root rot in January. It wasn't until September that it started showing roots. I didn't water it at all until it rooted (learned that the hard way). It did become slightly dessicated in the meantime. I think probably A. pillansii responds the same way. I've seen pics of both A. pillansii and A. dichotoma in the same environment. You'd think there would be natural hybrids--are there? -Ron-

Hi Anne, Funny abt Marietta, OH, I hadn't heard that. I'd put feedback at that Seller, but that's just me & I don't use EBay at all or even shop online. FYI: to anyone for whom this is not obvious: Anyone transacting in Aloes or other fleshy leafed succulent who is shipping their plants wrapped in wet paper toweling & Plastic Wrap doesn't know their A** from their elbow & I would stay well away. That'd be the fastest way to ensure the recipient would receive a pile of wet & rotting MUSH that I can think off. Proof the Seller has absolutely no clue! How anyone dealing in succulents doesn't know that it's best to ship DRY, bare root, rolled up in newsprint DRY & open to air (no plastic wrap or sealing-in type materials) is beyond me! Anne, I completely understand your confidence in the Seller being shaken when you opened the box -- I'd go back & tell them so, on the off chance they don't know better - yikes. From here, it looks like a nice plant to me! I hope it recovers well.

Certainly not here to dispute the name of the Lowes plant. I bought a couple of the same plants, chuckling to myself that ALL of the aloes were labeled Aloe vera. Mine are PIG, growing well and curiously have lost their spots. You can see some of the spots remain on the bottom, oldest leaves. So I'm pondering the label again. Of course it hasn't flowered yet (about 3 years old), which will add to the info. I guess I wonder if Aloe vera pups start with spots. I have no pups to compare.
