Thanks for answering. Yes, I've been to Tropiflora several times when I lived a little further North, but now its too far to drive, 3 hours each way. I'm looking for "tree Aloe" types now and they didn't carry too much in that area from what I remember. As for the phone book, many times I'm not prepared with exact names, I just wait until something catches my eye. Usually between asking here and on Craig's List, someone has gone through the hunt before and can recommend a place. Thanks again! Joss

Maybe look at Prinzig, 'Northwest Gardener's Resource Directory', I think 9th edition says it has 300 nurseries in coverage area. I have a copy and there is certainly alot of places described, including gardens and other non-commercial destinations. If Feeney, 'Gardeners on the Go - Seattle' is still available you might like to check that out as well. Cistus nursery on Sauvie Island would be my first pick for (just north of) Portland area. You could hit them and then drive up to Longview, connect with 5 there. If you are going to be in south Seattle Oasis Water Gardens might be of interest, if you like aquatics and similar plants.

You might like to Google Cactusmall, which lists just about all the on line sources of cacti.

East Austin Succulents is good. If you are going to be in San Antonio area I will suggest Paul's Desert in Schertz Texas... Just off of IH 35 . Their hours are variable so call in advance. Every one raves about them.
