Arizona Cactus Garden?

I sent off an order for some seeds and the letter was sent back saying not at this address. I then checked their web page and I get the old 'page not found' message.

Does anyone know what is going on? Have they stopped selling seeds? Or have they relocated? I will be terribly dissapointed if they have stopped trading.

They haven't moved... they simply closed for the season. they're only open from spring (in australia) to march so...
Sorry...I'm getting their catalogue, it will probably say that it is opening so when it comes I can let you know? I mean.. it's cool...if you want me to.

Yeah if you could let us know when they open again that would be great.

I will try to get in first thing. Do you know if they post a new seed list every year?

Both the Tucson Cactus & Succulent Society and the Central Arizona Cactus & Succulent Society do cactus rescues where they try to save cactus about to be bulldozed for new developments. Saguaro NP is a big help. East or west section? "Yes" on the "teddy bear cholla," also often called "Bigelow cholla" or "jumping cholla." Offhand, I don't have a common name for the barrel cactus, but F. wislizenii is common in that area. "Fishhook barrel" is probably as good a common name as any. The other pictures were hard to tell, but Cylindropuntia fulgida is a very common cholla in that part of AZ. Arizona has more species of cacti than any other state, and location is important to narrow down the species. You might look for "The Cacti of Arizona" by Lyman Benson. His taxonomy is very conservative (for example, Cereus giganteus instead of Carnegia gigantea for the saguaro), and some names are flat obsolete, but, just the same, he has lots of good stuff.

Albuca are just one genus among many of a large number of geophytic plants from many plant Families occurring in the winter rain deserts of South Africa & Namibia. A few are in specialist collections but they are rare. Many of these plants are really unusual while some are also extremely beautiful in flower. A few examples from a huge range are, Albuca unifolia - quite an oddity. Some are 'windowed' as in the two ssp of Bulbine mesembryanthoides and also B haworthiodes. Tylecodon also has a number of amazing little plants. Not all are bulbs some are tiny caudiciforms and some have succulent foliage. The only way to acquire these plants is to join a specialist Society and trade with experienced collectors or import new species with the cost and enormous red tape involved. I have a numer of various sp. mostly in the mesemb Family but no spares. Incidentally A spiralis does crop up now and again. I have just acquired one by trading. Tarrington Exotics sometimes has a few interesting bulbs such as Massonia. Most require knowledge and skill to grow.

I grow cacti in the tropics ,a well draining gravelly mix,is required. I also bring my cacti in out of the tropical rain storms during the wet season ,I just put them undercover of the eaves of the house,until I get to build a waterproof greenhouse.

Just want to check to see if we are taking about the same place. Are you talking about Tarrington Exotics? As i know they close over the cooler months.

Hi,

This is Vlado - the owner of Arizona Cactus Garden. I am sorry i didn't visit this forum earlier.

Last year in April I sold the house and moved to another (wife's gambling ended marriage and forced to sell house).

New address is
73 Heaths Rd.,
Hoppers Crossing, Vic 3029

New seeds list comes out every year - always try to have it ready by 1st of July (to coincide with financial year), right now am working on next season's list (2003 - 2004), which will have over 5000 different seeds and that will be the last season of "Arizona Cactus Garden".

I intend to register a non-profit organization and all the inventory of seeds will be donated to that organization. More detais will be posted in not too distant future.
