They definitely look exactly like my Milk and Wine Lilies, which are Crinums. Crinums will keep their foliage all summer and bloom in mid to late summer on 2 to 2 1/2 foot stalks, also with big pink lily-like blooms, and they repeat when happy. They look alot like amaryllis, but as you said the leaves are long, wavy, and a lighter green. If this is milk and wine, they will be creamy white with pink stripes. Very beautiful and tough. If not milk and wine, they will still likely be some shade of pink, rose red, or white. You need to plant them with a bit of their neck still showing above ground (leaves too, of course) in good, well-manured soil. They like consistent water, and will tolerate a good bit of shade, but also do well in full sun. Like any bulbs, you should not mow their foliage, ever. But it is their nature to make huge bulbs. Some can get as large as basketballs, so says the literature. I have not seen any like that, but I dug some three year olds this year and they are as large as grapefruit. They don't like to be disturbed, so choose your spot for them carefully (plant about 12 inches apart), and leave them alone. They will probably take two good years to bloom. If you ever do dig them, you can learn from my hard experience. Lift the entire clump from the ground and separate them by hand. I stuck my spade in the middle of the clump to divide them and ended up ruining the biggest bulb. (Think first, dig second. If I could just get that rule firmly in my mind! :) If you check out crinums, you will find that they are extremely expensive bulbs. You have a treasure here! Enjoy! I am 99 percent sure these are crinums. There are other varieites, so they may not be milk and wine. (There are, however, no bad ones.) Every part of your description fits, and so does the size of these and the roots on the bottom of the bulbs. I hope someone else will chime in to either agree or disagree with me.

Thank you to Lance who looked at the photos (see Gallery) and suggested this might be a hybrid bourbon, "...most likely it would be one of the types which are gallica/bourbon crosses." Any thoughts from others in the forum? Thank you--

The color is more red than orange. Only thing I can tell you about it is that it is a daylily (hemerocallis) and not a lilium. Someone on the daylily forum could probably identify it in a heartbeat. Here is a link that might be useful: daylily forum
