Here's a rough sketch of the yard: The Jacaranda branches mostly extend out over the left-hand side in front of the kitchen patio (this patio is actually covered by our neighbor's patio because we're the bottom unit condo - the column is one of the supporting structures for that). The blue agapanthus idea is an interesting one. But those seem to be very similar to the the birds of paradise that I've been struggling so hard to get rid of in the yard. My main goal is to clear out as much space as possible to give way for more 'usable' space: setting up a patio table to sit outside, bigger space to setup the bbq and grill, etc. Of course, the Jacaranda bloom will make things messy, but I'd want to be able to more easily clean it up. If it will make a nice amendment to the soil though, that's something else to consider (in terms of gathering up the bloom and mixing it in). I've noticed that it's not uncommon for seeds to get mixed into the dirt, resulting in Jacaranda tree sprouts! I actually let one grow to about 3ft before I decided it probably wasn't a good idea to let it continue, and uprooted it; especially seeing how it was right next to the outside wall of the kitchen!

I had a seedling pop up near my Jacaranda amongst the rocks about six years ago. I pulled it up like a weed, as I usually do. This time the the root came up in its entirety...no breakage so I planted it over on the hillside on county property. It was about two feet tall at the time. It bloomed I believe it's third year also at about ten feet tall. It didn't bloom the next year however. It's tall and spindly now...about 20 feet but bloomed nicely this year. As it fills out, I expect it to be a nice tree. -Ron-

Hi, I've got a jacaranda grown from seeds 9 years ago. It grows very fast so I had to prune it a few years ago. Now the plant has started to flower which I am very happy about. However I see some flowers starting to dry up and perish. Some don't. The remaining flowers still have to open up. There is a light purple color noticeable. What happened with the dead flowers? I keep the plant in a pot and during summer it stays outside in full sun. In winter I keep it inside in the brightest and coolest place I have at about 60.8F (16°C). In winter I did not give much water but now when it's blooming I tend to give more and sometimes with fertilizer. During good days, I keep the plant outside now but at night I keep it inside. I do have to tell that I made one crucial beginner's mistake, which I have never done before . A few weeks ago I put the plant outside for the first time this year with lots of sunshine. I never do this with my plants but somehow this time I did not realize as I was so happy with the flowers. thank you for your replies best regards Yves
