I don't often have time to poke around the US forums but given the odd comment here and there in OZ, I thought I'd look in on "Suggestions and comments".

Seems our friends across the big pond are even less enamoured over the recent changes.

All I know is that some of those posts, in Spike's day, would have been Disneyed on day one!!!

yeh alison,

not good hey i hang around a few forums over there and the drop off in posts is nothing short of astounding.

and the way things are going with their ads it is even slowing firefox down, said to my lovely today it won't be long now and i reckon i'll concentrate on the other places i frequent, we can have the same chatting with no ads.

All I'm doing here is looking to see if it gets fixed still no emails coming through apparently we don't exist if you try to send email via our page GW was a great site I think I may look elswhere we seem to be using too many Mbs logging in etc

Ken, I don't understand your point of view. You are neither a hosta grower, a southern client or a small business owner. Yet, you decide that you don't want to hear gripes from the southern clients of northern growers. I'm a southern client and a small business owner. As I remember the post, the other poster was griping because the grower wasn't responding to her emails. Her plants had not arrived and other people's had. That's a red flag right there. As a small business owner, you have to respond to complaints, immediately if not sooner. You have to say something, if only to say, my wife is in surgery, I can't handle this right now. In both cases, the grower was in err. I know that you had a late spring. We accept that. What is not acceptable is not responding. That was the other growers problem. In my case, the previous year, the grower said they shipped to the warmer areas first, and did. This policy changed last spring, as shipments to northern areas were complete when mine had not shipped. My plants arrived about June 1. This has nothing to do with frozen ground. This is a vendor not returning emails. This is a vendor who chose to ship to northern areas first. This has nothing to do with geography or weather. This are bad businesss choices. I don't want an apology. I want you to understand that you are giving both businesses a pass. They don't deserve it. You live by the sword, you die by the sword. Small business thrives on groups like this. It's very difficult to reach an appropriate audience. Those who are mentioned here get some nice referrals. On the flip side, if they screw up, they deserve to be called on it. That's all we did. bkay

Oak, I love shopgoodwill.com and ebay. And have learned how to win bids the last 45 seconds if I want something and price is ok with me. Shipping sometimes seems high, other times I know its very fair. I will say that the folks at the online goodwill stores can really pack great. I've gotten some very delicate, breakable things from them. Our local Goodwills can get some neat stuff, and are kept pretty nice. Tho I think the ones in other parts of the country get some neater stuff most of the time. I can see where you thought GW meant Garden Web. It takes awhile to pick up all the abbreviations here. And some have double meanings like DF...dear father or dear friend? I usually just say my Dad as I know it can get confusing. Some of the gals get such wonderful things at yard sales and estate sales. I keep wanting to try them but am so shy about going alone and have no one to go with here. :o( hugs, Karen

Hi stinky. No, it was not fun at all!, and kept me from wanting to,post at first. That, and all the strange text that occurs on this new contraption. Of course it"s not mug skills!. Oh, and see the "mug" there? That's an example of auto spell,correct ,,which I thought I' d turned off...( as well,as all,the extra commas...sigh). Forgive me for being too,lazy this a.m. To correct. It's nice to still be her, whatever the name. It endlessly reassures me of the innate goodness of people...plus, it's fun!

I have a good one - allow edits or deletion of the original post in a thread. As it is right now, we can edit replies, but one cannot edit or delete the post that begins a thread, even if no one has replied to it or it's only been posted a few seconds. I can see why changes wouldn't be allowed after there are replies to it, but until then, editing or deleting it should be an option.

Hi Alison..I look sometimes but havn't for a while, yes some are a bit rough for a Garden Site.
I did not realise iVillage went in for all that, nobody happy over there.
Especially about some of those ads Thank goodness we dont get them..

g'day mm,

by "rough" i take it you mean basic not many bells and whistles, that can be great from where i stand, and the moderators of those forums will add new specialised forums usually without much ado, so if gardeners frequent them then they can shape them how they need them. the best bit i reckon the moderators are part of the group as a whole they are gardeners & they respond and they post, too easy hey?

O no Len they are not the ads Iam talking about. I think the ones they are talking about are R rated.

i'm talking about the ads 'r' rated or not yes i see the USA forums some are concerned about content but lots others it's simply the bombardment of ads.

Len its also the content of some of the threads, not really what GW would have permitted in the days we remember. Not wishing to sound prudish, just kind of surprised at the element that has infiltrated over there, on what was previously a very tightly run site for family use.

it would seem the integrity of the forums has been given over to the need for greed.

i remember once i got sent to disney land for innocently trying to post a link.
