Can somebody inform me if a special seed exchange exists for seeds of Australian and New Zealand origin ?

The plant exchange on these forums is a good place to start. Just make sure anything you bring in from, or send to, Aus is permissible.
Respect the laws, and remember our primary industries can be devestated by one small act of ignorance.

Hi Tuinier,I dont know of one,But have imported seed from England.First I found out that the seed I wanted was available,then went to MAF on the net and asked them if I could import the seed and they send you a list of what you can and cant import.I then sent the docs they sent me with the payment and asked the seed merchant to send it back with the seed.I recieved the seed within 8 days of being sent.It had been opened by MAF but thats what they said they would do.So it was not difficult.Hope this helps

Sometimes traders are extremely generous. They send you a life-time supply of seeds. You can't use them all yourself.....so what can you do with them? You can make them into packets and trade them for other seeds you could use, or you can share them as bonuses with your traders. Once seeds from someone else are in your home you can do with them what you like. Trading or giving away the extras will always be acceptable.

After exchanging addresses you can mail your seeds. The seed packs are carefully wrapped with bubblewrap and placed in an envelope or you can use a padded mailer to send them. You need to cushion them in fat packaging so they don't go through the PO's automatic mail sorting machines. Always make sure that your email address is included with the seeds. If the trader needs to contact you later on the email address is right there for them to use. Always write your return mailing address on the outside of the envelope. The post offive will charge a bit more for mailing a fat letter, it is because the letter gets out-sorted into "hand-mail". It's too fat to go through their high-speed mail sorters. The width should always be over a 1/4" thick to keep a letter out of the mail-sorters because these high speed machines can crush the seeds to powder. It's courteous to let your trader know when their seeds will be on the way. If you've promised to mail on Monday, but something happened to delay that then email the trader to let them know when the seeds will be mailed...and keep that date! A good trader is a responsible trader. Good traders use bubblewrap or padded mailers to assure that the seeds are not crushed during their trip through the mail.

Hi everyone, I'm new to the seed exchange community. I have plenty of blanket flowers aka Indian blanket flowers to be exchanged for native milkweed and purple cone flower seeds. That's great. Allspice is the awesome scented spice that is used in cooking, we call it Allspice here in the US, aka Pimenta dioica. Also I have access to lots of Camphor seeds (Cinnamomum camphora). So we could do suncrest red brug + passiflora 'frederick' + winged bean (if you have a lot) for Allspice + Camphor + Arugula Red Dragon + Asian Long Pepper (I am low on arugula and the sunflowers, and I am out of bee balm seeds, sorry). :(

I could add an exchange area to thsi forum that would be restricted to those from New Zealand, if there's an interest.

That would be great Spike. A lot of the plants in Australia are not allowed in here and vice versa.
I think all gardeners save seed and can take cuttings for our friends on GardenWeb NZ.

Hi Guy's and Girls,
Let's get a seed exchange up and running. Up until now I've been trading seeds with the USA, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, and Britain with no major MAF problems. Sometimes they have detained seed until I have been able to supply botanical names and most they have released. It appears however that any Bean or Pea type seeds are a complete NONO.
I mostly grow Tuberous Begonia's and New guinea impatiens which we both display and sell at garage sales .I also grow both organic and Hydroponic vegetables. So far through the garden web I have aquired 25 varieties of heirloom Tomatoes and have many unusual seeds I'd like to trade from various countries. Will update my trade list as soon as possible if anyone is keen to get this running over here.
