Hi, I'm new to ferns too-just bought a Bird's Nest fern and it's doing very well. My mom has grown a Rabbit's foot fern for years. She doesnt do anything special except put it under the shower for a few minutes once a week. She doesnt mist. It does lose its leaves (some) in winter-this is normal for this fern-but they grow back quickly. It likes morning sun, nothing too bright and my mom fertilizes it w/Miracle Gro every time she waters. It really is an unusual plant w/the "feet" and all. You cant even see the pot on my moms plant! They dont seem too difficult to grow. Good luck! : ) Jen

RITA; I really like MAE GRAHAM, tooShe is nestled in all the different plants in my Jungle Garden # 2 at the end of my sidewalk.She seems to be very happy there, with a rose on each side of her, plus a Patio Tomatoe plant in a pot,amd WONDER OF IT ALL is in front of her, too. The first two blooms I had on WONDER OF IT ALL didnt open all the way, but soon as this hot weather started every one has been about perfect.No trouble opening now.I just LOVE this daylily. Cindy. I am glad you think my photo is pretty good of Palace Garden Beauty.,I have seen much better before. Yes,ms Blackie stayed up under the lily leaves till I moved, then she came along to find another shady spot Kathy, Thank you, yep, she has the edge and I just love it too. Kay, Thank you.It was hard taking photos in that hot sun.I just had to keep wiping sweat out of my eyes to see anything,and with glasses,thats not easy to do. I too got involved in setting up my daughter's science class with cabbages from bonnie plants. What a great program! the variety is O.H. Cross which gets huge. I would say 15-20 pounds but doubt 50 pounds unless you live in alaska (cool and 20 hours of sun in summer?). The cabbage issue is cabbage looper and cabbage worm. We sprayed ours once a week with BT. Also called Dipel under one manufacturer's trademark. It is a dead bacteria in suspension. Totally safe and organic. It acts as a gut poison on caterpillers only (lepidopterus larvae). I just mix it in a quart mister bottle and mist once a week on the foliage. My daughter had the second biggest cabbage in her class. The winner was bigger but looked like swiss cheese with all the holes in it. At least we could eat ours. Hooray to Bonnie Plants as a fantastic program on their part.

Getting A Victorio Strainer - Again

Victorio, the name, is teh original machine made over 40 years ago. Since then, there have been major improvements and many name changes as well. If the one you got has a wooden pusher and a small aluminium tray to guide some of the strained material out through the conical strainers which have big wing nuts on them, that model is no longer made, and has been out of producting about 15 years now. The newer models have a similar appearance, but the strainers are twist on wand held in place with a single small thumbscrew. Also the strainers have wrap around plastic spatter shields and the cranking shaft has an O ring seal so liquids don't leak out that end. Villaware, Roma, and a newer name are now the current models and all are the same design which has major improvements over the original. I had three different versions, and one was the oldest and was called Victorio, but the latest one is Villaware. None of the strainers are interchangable with the older model. Hi Igor,New Zealand is a wonderful place to grow plants.we have mild winters and resonably hot summers.There is not many plants that wont grow here with some kind of protection

Hi Igor, Ilive in the middle of the North Island and we can grow a wide range of plants and trees here. We cant grow tropical fruit ,veg or plants but have a lot of native treesand flowers in our garden. We also have Elm, dogwoods and rhododendrons growing and roses do well here . They bloom from Nov to April Cheers Yvonnej

Hi Igor - our climate ranges from Spain to Alaska - plants of every conceivable type grow here. Our natives are great plants and are the fashion thing at the moment. Open gardens are very popular here and more and more people are opening their gardens to the public.
