I can only speak for the nectarines and peach trees as I had those in my old house. Here's a general outline of their behavior in relation to the seasons. Again these are just for my trees that I have observed, some may be different. October-November - leaves turn dark, some fallout. December-January - All leaves gone, tree is dormant. February - Flower buds emerge. March - Flower show! April - New leaf and stem buds emerge, fruits should be visible now. May-June - growing season, fruits maturing. July - Fruits are usually ripe by then. August-September - tree continues to grow. Its just a general outline and can vary depending on how soon or how late the climate changes for the year.

My notes on low chill varieties. Phoenix (300 hours) proven are Camarosa, Chandler, Sequoia and Albion. Give it a shot and let us know how it turns out. Camarosa June Chandler June Pajaro June Sequoia June Eversweet (Womack Nursery) everbearing Albion Everbearing (day-neutral; = 35-85 degrees fruits) Fort Laramie Everbearing Selva Everbearing (day-neutral;very large fruits) Tristar Everbearing Plant in Fall and harvest in June. Replant in Fall....(treat as an annual). Before planting, incorporate one pound of 12-24-12 fertilizer per 100 sq. ft. (or equivalent). It is recommended to remove the first flowers after planting to improve plant establishment. Yearly fertilization should not occur until after spring crop has been harvested. Here, a 10-10-10 fertilizer can be applied at 1 pound per 100 sq. ft. Some everbearing cultivars to consider are: Fort Laramie; Gem Everbearing; Ogallala; Ozark Beauty; Quinault; and Streamliner. Some day-neutral cultivars to consider are: Fern; Selva; Tribute; and Tristar. Zone 9 Strawberry Plants for California 1. Albion �" plants are tolerant to changing weather, yield multiple harvests as an everbearer, and produce dark red, tasty strawberries. 2. Camarosa �" a short-day junebearer that produces early and has good storage properties. 3. Ventana �" produces very early in the season (even earlier than Camarosa). Flavor and shelf life are good. 4. Others: Aromas, Camino Real, Diamante Zone Nine Strawberry Plants for Florida 1. Sweet Charlie �" this variety was developed in the early 1980s in Florida, and it is a real winner. It smells sweet and tastes even sweeter. It also has good disease resistance. Oldies-but-goodies that will still produce: Selva, Oso Grande Zone 9 Strawberry Plants for Texas 1. Chandler �" very likely the best strawberry variety for growing in South Texas. For a profile, click here: Chandler Strawberry Plants. 2. Others: Douglas, Sequoia (both of these varieties will fruit in the early spring). Fruit size is heavily dependent upon irrigation...the more water the bigger the fruit.

In zone 7B, it is unlikely that a generously sized container - like one suited to growing a dwarf fruit tree - would freeze in winter. And if you use a high quality potting soil, drainage shouldn't be an issue so they should be able to remain outdoors, exposed to the elements, without worry. I grow a lot of trees in containers, some much more sensitive to cold temps than most fruits, without worry. The only ones I've lost (and it hasn't been many) have been through my own negligence/lack of care, not winter issues. There are concerns with growing trees in containers but that is more to do with the correct type of potting medium, fertilizing and repotting/root pruning than cold issues with such a mild zone. The Container Gardening forum has a great thread on growing trees in containers - you might want to seek that out for additional info.

Not sure if you are still looking, but here is what I have in my backyard in Richmond (basically old Katy Plains): 1) Cara Cara Orange - 2) Navel Orange - 3) Dwarf Meyer Lemon - 4) Alberquina Olive: 5) Ruby Red Grapefruit - 6) Clementine Tangerine - 7) 2 Persian Limes: I am struggling with these Persian Limes. The top one I had to move since where I first placed it had too much water. I expect that is the reason it did not bloom this year. The bottom one, I grew that from a seed from a Persian lime my father gave me from his tree. It did bloom this year, but only a single bloom. I hope both will do better next year. I also have a Fuji Apple tree that is struggling as well. I have never had good luck with Apple trees in Texas. I have 3 finger lime trees also growing. One in ground and the other two in pots in different locations. They seem to be doing well. All these trees have been in the ground since 2016. The cold snaps we had in 2017 did do a number on all these trees (major leaf drop, but no damage to trunk or branches), but they bounced back well. Here is a list of others I know grow well in Texas: 1) Loquat Trees - These are great trees that do very well here. They shed a lot so be aware. I even like the tangy fruit. Great to make preserves. 2) Key Limes 3) Figs - Many varieties grow well here 4) Peaches - I grew a Dr. Davis peach tree from seedling to 20 foot producing tree at my old house in less than 8 years! 5) Blackberry bushes. You cannot kill these. I would recommend getting a thornless one though. Now here is the list of Trees or bushes that I have had zero luck with. 1) Avocado Trees - I have planted 3 of these (Bacon and cold hardy Hass)... All have died. Browning occurs every time. I have tried multiple soil locations. No luck. 2) Apple Trees - Again, I have had no luck with apples. My Fuji looks like it is dying and I have tried Dorsett apples as well. I had better luck with the Dorsett but it never really grew much. I did get a couple of harvests, but they were small. Really good though. 3) Blueberry bushes. This disappoints me because these are my son's favorites. I ordered this online and it arrived with ants in it. I tried to clean them out, but I think I shocked it so much that it just died. I do think they can do well here, but I have not had any luck. Upcoming projects: Raised vegetable garden. Adding these trees/Bushes around that garden: Thornless Blackberry bush. Rabiteye Climax Blueberry, Miracle Berry, 2 Dr. Davis Peaches, Fuzzy Kiwi, Star Cherry, and a Santa Rosa Plum.
