Ya mean my fav Junk Do-Dads besides glass for totems and flowers? LOL I especially like funky style things that are handmade. Must take a pic of one of my latest treasures to show. The day I found a large coffee can full of chandy crystals for only $2. was a memorable day! No one but a dedicated YS/crafter/junker could understand that thrill. Other than that my list IS a mile long. I like anything that could be described as architectural, bling, antique, vintage, concrete, rock, or repurposed. Does that cover pretty much any ol' thing I might find cheap at a yard sale? Or sometimes not so cheap at a thrift or antique shop? I've also recently found a little old table for $2 and a very junky bench for $1.50 for my garden or garden house. They need help and I probably overpaid even at those low prices. My DH just shakes his head when I buy things like this. He thinks they're trash and he may be right. But I like them and know they can be reno'd.

I don't grow mums much, because they either spread more than I want them to, or don't live long. I have some in the bed I tend at church that a woman insisted on giving me. I cut them back a few times in the summer so they will bloom in the fall, and not earlier. These are the spreaders, so I pull them out when they overstep where I want them to go. (They are yellow, btw.) A few years ago, I bought one of the newer kinds that looked like a daisy. It did not overwinter for me. A few days ago, I was looking for other things, but ended up seeing a pink garden mum called, "Debonair" that I decided to try. I chose the one that had the most unopened flowers buds. They said I can plant it, and it will keep the blooms. I did not know spring is better for planting mums. The tag gave instructions on overwintering. It said there is no need to prune before winter, and to mulch after the ground freezes. In spring, it says to pinch off new growth when 3 inches long, and pinch as needed until mid-July. It also says to fertilize often during growing season, but I don't fertilize often, so we'll see what happens. When I looked it up online, one of the sites I read said the lowest temperature these kind can take is 20 degrees. It gets colder than that here. I hope you find some you like and they grow for you. I have a golden yellow with large (3-4") blooms that starts early. I've had it for years, but not certain of the name. I know the tag said "King's" something. I thought it was "King's Ransom" but the only references to that said it was cream and pinkish. It may have been "King's Gold" but I can't find anything about that. What I do know is that it's a gorgeous golden yellow, has very large, full blooms, and starts early and keeps going.

Dovetail drawers are a common standard component in cabinet construction. The cab sub orders them from a supplier. It's no problem. Most mid grade and up cabinet drawers come with dovetail box construction. Another common drawer component is Blumotion slides possibly with soft close. Talking to the sub before he gives a quote about these is a normal practice. A specific type of lazy susan is the same. This is locking down components that affect the construction. Once the sub knows these parts are part of the project he can determine his costs and give the GC a price for the number of cabinets this particular job requires him to supply. The same applies to different door styles and wood varieties, paint finishes or other finishing affects. I'm sure you picked those too. There is no standard price because every kitchen has a different number of cabinets of different types. One kitchen can have $3k in cabs and the next $10k. That's why the cab sub is there before the contract price is presented. You told him what you wanted. He told the GC what his part of the job would cost. The GC figured his total cost and profit and gave you a price. You accepted his offer. That's all you owe. The sub is trying to overcharge the GC. He needs to go back to the sub for a refund. Which is probably something he has a lot of power to do because the sub has worked with him and wants to continue working with him on future jobs. Stand firm. Don't accept his verbiage about not making any money. He's making a healthy amount for his work. Next time you work with him require a complete list of specs as part of his contract offer. Write in any changes in pen before you sign. They supersede printed provisions and are controlling when the contract is signed.
