I have checked through a few books and am unable to find Acacia rubida. Generally they are grown (acacias) from seed. The seed needs heat to germinate, some need fire to germinate. In the UK you are mid Winter, at this time of the year you would be taking hard wood cuttings. Good luck, Wattles are usually short lived perhaps 10 to 15 years.

Thanks very much for the help, I may try a few different cuttings types and see what is best as mine is not big enough to have seed yet(may be this year)

thanks Lou

Ive grown some acacia tortilis from seed and they are about 6 months old now. I can't find anything online about how to care for them so Im wondering if anyone has some answers for me. What kind of fertilization do they need. What pruning is best? They are getting really tall and I don't want them to get too scraggly so I pruned the top a bit. Watering? Thanks for an help

Hi Almeria, I really think that at this size your Acacia retinodes will resent being moved. The ones in the pots probably stand a better chance of moving (with as little soil disturbance as possible) than the others. If you are not happy with the ones you already have in the ground then you might as well risk the move...what have you got to lose? Most Australian natives do not like being transplanted much. If you grow them in the future I think it is best to get them in the ground as small plants up to 1 ft. high. Cheers, Dee.

Help! Acacia invaded by caterpillars!

Yes, those are the caterpillars of sulfur butterflies. I planted my senna to attract them. My bush's flowers only last a few weeks anyway, and the cats don't eat enough flowers or foliage to ruin the show. For camouflage, the caterpillars are usually greenish in color if they are eating the foliage; yellow like the one in your photo if they are eating the flowers. Although photos can be deceiving, yours appear to be about the size that they will wander and get ready to make a chrysalis. Below are some photos. The chrysalis can also range in color, usually from green or yellowish-green to red.
