Nat, I don't mean to throw a monkey wrench into your list but I took out Ducher because I could not keep black spot off of it. Thrips loved it and so did the Japanese beetles. It was an underperformer for me, here in Atlanta. Others love it, so thatÂs just my experience. Gruss An Aachen is a great rose but he needs to be sprayed here if you want him to look good--if not, you're going to see a lot more cane. BUT, he does respond well to occasional spraying and he does bloom even when I let him get spotty. BelindaÂs Dream is also nice but does better with some spray. BTW, her blooms are much larger and more impressive in the cooler weather of the spring and fall. Of the ones youÂve listed, Marie Daly is the most disease resistant and has the most continual bloom. The fragrance also carries on the breezeÂwhich I really like. SdLM is another great rose. Mine does get some BS but with a little shot of anti-fungal spray every now and then, she does well. The blooms are beautiful and smell great. Neither SdLM or MD are very large, thoughÂboth maybe 3.5 to 4 feet tall and wide. What about Duchesse de Brabant? SheÂs on JeanÂs list that you mentioned and she made the Earthkind list in Texas. She has beautiful pink blooms that smell like raspberries to me. Mine is taller than wide but I've heard others report that their DdB are larger. I just went out and would call mine "lightly thorny". My guess, and this is just a guess, is that dilution of vinegar is really being used as a soil acidifier. It sounds like something I could dump on the hybrid multifloras, and there would be much rejoicing. It's fairly common for roses to have rather distinct ideas on how big they want to be. If somebody tries to keep them smaller than that, all they do is grow until they get to the 'right' size. As much as anything, it sounds like the 'right' size is too large for the spot. Not only do landscapers like to plant for a finished look, but around here they tend to think all roses are HTs. Seeing a R. hugonis jammed into a 3 ft spot makes you realize just how clueless they can be. However, the Meidiland roses at the gas station look just fine. They are supposed to be 4-5 ft shrubs and do their job.

I suppose you mean a single pink rose. Poulsen's pearl, betty prior, these are early floribundas. You can get some of the other poulsens but they are more intense in color. the hybrid musks have some, but they are more clustered and smaller giving a different effect, and the same with the polyanthas. Of course dainty bess is a single pink ht, but it gives a different appearance than the dog rose. I think the early floribundas are going to be the closest thing that looks similiar but repeating.

Kind of guessing a bit on some of this but information is scarce. I believe out those 3 rose White Meidiland would be the healthiest and overall best of the three. That said I did have W M and it is a big rose not tall but wide. It also tip roots where ever the canes touched the soil. Mine would easily form a 12 foot diameter circle. I just did not have that kind of room. It would be great for a hillside. So that one is robust and easy to grow. I would stay away from Wedding Dress as the rose just came out and they seem to be getting rid of it already. I would also be leery of Blossom Blanket. Only because it has been around a long time and is recycled occasionally by places like Jackson and Perkins and Wayside Gardens. It sounds okay on Help Me Find but I just have a feeling that it would be a problem rose outside of dry environments. Perhaps someone else has grown this one. So a lot depends on what you need the rose to do. I have tried many ground cover roses. For a white ground cover the best I have found is a Kordes rose Innocencia. It's very healthy and a much smaller size which works for me. There is also a newer drift rose in white that looks good. Not really sure if it is a new and improved white or the old one that they used to sell. I do grow 2 Cape diamond roses. They are own root and have massive root systems. I do think that she would do well in poor soil as long as it's not too wet. She is a large shrub so give her room.
