he used to drop in here every now and then .. i THINK i recall .. that he is working on a new book .. i am not sure if its a second edition though ... it might be entirely new in toto ... regardless.. the historical information in the front 1/3 of the book is incredible.. and i presume skipped by a majority of those who 'read' the book ... of most interest to me was the HN and SN .. horticultural names.. and the synonym names for the species ... e.g. blue giant ='d sieboldiana ='d elegans ... plus all the history of growing them from seed based on the improper presumption that they came true from seed ... but do note.. that is from memory .. it may have all been a dream ... ken

I've got mine ordered! Can't wait to get it. Almost every Hosta retailer in Ontario is selling it and they're all trying to offer the best price so it shouldn't be too hard to get one in Canada (which is fantastic!). I'm surprised amazon.ca doesn't have it....but amazon.com does. Oh...also...in Canada only the 5% federal portion of tax is charged on books since the PST portion is exempt for book purchases. I have a Summer Music, and it is delightfully colorful. Where did you put it? On your driveway? The light middle banded by the sort of yellowish chartreuse, and then a wide margin of medium green, all gorgeous colors. In a way, it could be the same sort of design as the Striptease family. I can see that it was rightfully moved out of this bed though, since it would distract the viewer from the overall effect. With my Summer Music, I can see it soon placed on a higher stand where it is in your face!

Nice review Lisa. I have a lot of hosta books but somehow overlooked this one. I might be tempted to buy a copy of this one now. BTW, I have Lucy Vitols, it's a good hosta, gets mentioned occasionally here and there. Wondering if that particular hosta performs exceptionally well in her climate. Maybe that's why she is so drawn to it?
