I think early spring would be best, but after flowering would be second choice. We got a bunch of them donated for the GNPS sale and I had to whack them back hard. They responded well to that (Feb/Mar). The bark is very nice; this plant needs more exposure in the public. Maybe if I give bobbygil a small one he will upgrade my sandwich to a combo.

Possibly Senna corymbosa???? (Never seen it myself.) It isn't any kind of Hypericum.

What is for sure is that the prior two comments are made by people who DON'T buy seeds on Ebay! I have bought so many over the years and literally have had no problem at all. Whatever weird plant I want, it's there. Now, I have bought plants that were OVERPRICED there, but that's the worst of it. St. John's wort is not going to be anything rare. One could probably find some certified seed distributor that will sell the seed, and by the time shipping is paid it will cost $20. Or one can pay $4 on Ebay and take a chance. And throw it away if it turns out to be some ghastly horror story. (And still get their money back!) But I doubt that would happen. Also, while there are mom-and-pop seed vendors on Ebay, there are also professional, full-time seed distributors who are simply expanding their exposure. It's a very active seed selling market.

Thanks for your replies. I am working with a landscape company that specializes in natives for an area in the front of my house that was completely denuded in a house renovation. The house faces north so most of it is in shade but the bed extends beyond the end of the house & the area he designated for the St Johns Wort will be in sun. He has 3 of them there. Seems like a lot to me since they look like they get pretty big. In fact there are way more plants in the whole design than I expected. This is a Work in Progress & not something I am particularly good at so there will probably be a lot more questions. This landscape company seems to be very busy so I appreciate being able to ask questions here. Thanks!
