theyre easy to grow from seed. One thing you need to keep in mind: Seeds from an apple, wont grow that type of fruit. A Spartan apple seed , wont give you a spartan apple tree. You really wont know what will grow. For some people, that is the best part though! Its simple. Wash the seeds using a sive, and running water. I would steralize them, using a 1:10 mixture of bleach:water, soaking the seeds in them for a few minutes, and then rinsing them of im water a few times. You pot them on a slightly moist paper towel, fold it over, and put that in a baggie. You then put that in the fridge for 6 weeks. If the apples have been in the fridge for a few weeks already, you can probably miss this step. Good luck!

Justin, Try it. You might just get a great new apple. I have planted apple, pear, and peach seeds. Peach seeds or pits, I did plant years ago and got real nice peaches from the trees. Pears and apples I planted them 2 yrs ago, and the trees are still too young to bear fruit--I hope someday they will bear some. Of course, I planted the seeds the lazy--or easy--way. Sometime in the winter (I live in zone 5. Used seeds from fruit I had just bought from a supermarket.) I planted the seeds in the ground, covered them with dirt--the small seeds not too deep, the peach pits deeper. In the spring they sprouted. Just make sure you mark the spot where you plant your seeds; this way, you wont pull them out as weeds--something I often do. I'm sure you are doing this for fun, so enjoy and learn. Hey, After 5 summers, I just got my first flowers from oriental lilies that I started from seed...Most of them look just like their parents...2 look different, but I have seen the same type of flowers in catalogs. Now would be a good time to pot your seedling babies up. You can use small 2" pots filled with a well draining soil mix. Make a hole with a pencil or your finger to the depth of the whole thing. Roots,seed and the "green part". Place the seed,roots down into the hole. Push the soil around the roots to stabilize it and cover the green with no more than 1/4" of the soil mix. Water well and set in a bright location out of direct sunlight. In a few days you should see the first leaves starting to poke up out of the soil. If you don't have 2" pots you can use styrofoam cups in the 8oz size. Just poke a bunch of drain holes in the bottom and around the sides at the base of the cup. Make sure the holes are large enough that the water will drain easily. When your little trees have their second set of TRUE leaves you can start feeding with a very weak fertilizer solution. The very first set of leaves are not true leaves but rather the Cotyledon leaves . These are the leaves of the embryo. As far as what soil. I use cactus mix as it retains enough moisture but drains very well. I also sprinkle a bit of sand the top of the soil as it deters fungus gnats and damp-off disease. I use just enough sand to cover the top of the soil,maybe 1/16th of an inch. I do not use play sand as its too fine and holds too much moisture. I use coarse grade construction sand. Wow Ch3rri! That will be an incredible experience. I always wanted to go there, but the flight time, I don't think I could handle that! Take some good pics. Top sells Kapong Mauve seeds, so I would hope that they would grow tru to type, but I am learning fast that some places will sell plants/seeds just for the profit. I bought a Hoya Lauterbachii from Logee's Greenhouse in Danielson Conn. They said it would be an easy grower and bloom after vine matures. Well I went to GW hoya forum and contacted Carol Noel, who happens to be an authority and she told basicalyy told me that I would have like a 10% chance at getting flowers. She lives in Hawaii, and she said she has optimum conditions for this and she has only had flowers twice, ever. So I am more leary about things, I research now before making a purchase. So who is going to care for your jungle while you are gone? That is always challenging for me, last time I lost a plumeria, and a kumquat. I think I lost a few more, but cannot remember.
