Mona, I know just how you feel. By reading other forum's on the GW I'm reading other states are having drought and I thought it was just us lower southern states. We went for three years without very much rain but this spring and now going into summer our area has had a lot of rain and a lot of damage due to rain. Sunday night we had 7 inches of rain within 2 hours, it hit about midnight and went till 2 AM. I knew this storm was not just any storm because it was so hard and lot's of lightening and thundering. By 2 AM I was really to get to bed thankfully the storm had lost it's strength. When I woke up in the morning got my coffee and sat down to watch the news, they had covered how bad the storm really was. In our town it wiped out a baseball park, did a lot of damage to the bridge and buckled up the road but this was nothing compared to damage to two other towns one only a few miles from us. There were lives lost and homes lost, cars on top of each other. Then about 25 miles north of us the storm flooded the whole town, they showed people on top of their roof tops because the water came rushing into the homes so fast they didn't have a chance to get to safety, 5 people lost their life's in this town. My husband wanted to take a drive to see how bad it was in our neighborhood and I seen many of the people along the main road having to pull up their carpet for water getting into their home. While the rain has been much needed because our lakes too where way below normal. I've lived here in Texas most my life and don't recall having this wet of a spring. Sure we have springs were we'll have so much rain that might flood once but we've been hit over and over this year. Wish we could just order up a few inches a week, just a nice slow steady rain for our plants and us.

I am done with my planting. Now I will do some more mulching to get everything ready for winter. There are some beds that were mulched late last year and I have not gotten to mulch again so they need it. The weather has been nice for playing in the garden. As for my Phil Korth daylilies just wait until next years bloom season as I have gotten so many more for next spring. It will be fun to compair the ones I already had to my new ones next year.

I could do several posts of just my purples! Yes, I am in the North (New Hampshire) and I have acidic soil. I do think that plays a role. Even my roses that other people call red or maroon are deep purple here, especially my gallicas. Charles de Mills rose is dark purple here but I see photos of it looking crimson. Even in the heat my purples are purple, but cool temps certainly intensify the deep tones. Also, my pinks are truly pink and not salmon. Here's a sampling of the dozens of purples I grow. BTW, none of my pictures are ever photoshopped and actually these are more purple in person...my camera has a hard time picking up what I see. I love purples and have far too many to show here but here's a sample.
