Some neps are easier to identify right off the bat even if they developing 2'' inch urns. Like my N. madascariensis and N. sanguinea, plants from the wholesaler Gublar Orchids sold at Home Depot. But my nep I bought from Lowes last year, it was a whole different matter. The plant was inside the infamous "cubes of death". As it grew from a 3'' rosette to a 6'' rosette. I wondered whether in the mean time if it was really a ventrata since the traps began to elongate, but a few months back. It began to develop urn tubbier at the bottom but still it look tubular the upper half like an alata, but like the N. ventricosa ÂredÂ, it had spots. Basically looking a lot like mcantrellÂs pic of his nep. Well, IÂm now more convinced it is a ventricosa. It developed an urn tubbier at the bottom, constricted midway then bulging again just below the entrance of the trap. Sometimes its fun researching & waiting for your plants to develop enough to learn what species it is. Hope you post pics of your own nep angolita. Happy growing!

Hello trap7, Actually, your Nepenthes still sounds young. Nepenthes in the mountains of Borneo and Pinatubo have been found as long as 40 feet (according to species) growing up trees. Some grow more compact close to the ground. What you are seeing growing from the base of your plant are new vine bifurcations. It is still one plant, it is just making new vines from it's main stalk. Now that it is beginning to vine, you should see it grow like crazy and become bushier, sending vines out in all directions. Your plant is becoming an adult. If it really likes it's home, it might even flower eventually. Good job,

with a house plant.. NEVER confuse what it would do in its native habitat.. with what it can do.. indoors ... why is your house plant not outdoors for summer???? and if you want to try such.. NO DIRECT SUN EVER .... tuck it on the north side of a house... even full shade outdoors is significantly more intense than indoors.... it would need to be hardened off to light... before allowed any sun ... if ever .... you dont mention where you are.. so i dont know if it can ever be put in full sun ... FL is much different than say.. WI ... welcome to GW .... come back often ... ken

Many nepenthes are quite tolerant of cold (but never of freezing). I had my nepenthes lady luck outdoors in a fish bowl covered loosely with saran wrap all summer in Seattle (where it routinely goes into the 50s each night) and it was thriving. They key to it growing good traps is to have plenty of humidity, but without letting the roots of the plant get too wet. So I keep mine in a separate pot inside the fishbowl. The pot is elevated on some rocks so that it is above the half inch of water in the bottom of the bowl. I water it with rain water or distilled and I feed it dried blood worms from the pet shop every 1-4 weeks. Almost all the traps you see on the plant in the photo are ones it grew this summer.
